Attack on Democracy and Public Services in Europe

Barry Finnegan of DAPSE gives a 13 minute analysis of the undemocratic nature of the EU when negotiating away public ownership, and then gives a three minute response to some questions.

At the first public meeting of DAPSE (Democracy and Public Services in Europe), held in Dublin on December 6th 2003, Dr. Franz Josef Stumman, Ailbhe Smith and Barry Finnegan were the main speakers.

Their aim,and the founding princple of DAPSE, was to expose the clandestine and unaccountable nature of decisions made in world trade negotiations on our behalf (ostensibly), is built into Article 133 of the Nice Treatywhich came into effect in February 2003.

First broadcast on Near FM's 'Majority World', March 11th, 2004, the first piece is a 13 minute eloquent extract from Barry's thoughts and experiences on the issue.

The second audio mp3 clip is a 3 minute extract of some of his responses.

In July 2004 the WWF challenged the legality of this removal of transparency by taking a case to the European Court of Justice. For more on this pending case, an easy-to-understand, concise and brilliant link is here.
