"Hiroshima - 50 Years" by Mordechai Vanunu

category international | anti-war / imperialism | opinion/analysis author Monday August 08, 2005 10:33author by Justin Morahan - Peace People Report this post to the editors

Vanunu wrote on Hiroshima's 50th annivesary from Ashkelon prison

Whistleblower on Israel's nuclear weapons cried out against the atrocity of Hiroshima while he was spending his ninth year of solitary confinement in Ashkelon prison in Israel

Hiroshima – 50 Years

by Mordechai Vanunu

Hiroshima Hiroshima,
My beloved Hiroshima,
Your sons, daughters, elders, wives.
Blew, radiated, with an Atomic Bomb.
A radioactive cloud consumed, rubbed out Hiroshima.
Hiroshima, Hiroshima.
For a live nuclear test sentenced you.
A nuclear laboratory of children, women, trees, animals.
In and under nuclear mushroom live burning.
burned, flattened to ground, radioactive ash - Hiroshima.

Hiroshima, Hiroshima.
Nuclear weapons gamblers win against you .
A U.S. revenge for Pearl Harbour.
Hiro-shima Japan heroism is the target.
wipe out rain Hiro - Hero-shima - Truman.
Hiroshima, Hero-shima
Japan and U.S. betrayed you Hero Hiroshima.
silence, forget Hiroshima Atomic tragedy.
Japan sacrifices your holocaust on the Yen altar.
Hollywood doesn't know you - you are not a Jewish Holocaust.

Hiroshima, Hiroshima.
Anti-nuclear weapons campaigners adopting you.
Orphans, Heritage, of Hiroshima our heroes.
Carry, preach, the memory, message of Hiroshima
To the future ages, to end nuclear gamblers.
Beginning and end of nuclear weapons. Hiroshima. Hero.
Hiroshima. Hero. Hero. Hero.

VANUNU MORDECHAI JC.
from Ashkelon prison 1995.

Osirak

by McFlecknoe Vanunu

Osirak Osirak,
My beloved Osirak,
Your sons, daughters, elders, wives.
Never got to blow Israel off the map with an Atomic Bomb.
The Israelis destroyed my beloved Osirak first; although I protested against it's destruction.

author by Justin Morahan - Peace Peoplepublication date Tue Aug 09, 2005 16:11author address author phone Report this post to the editors

I refer you back to a reply I gave you on October 9th last when you made similar sneering criticism about Vanunu's openly made objection to the Israeli bombing of Osirak.

"He protested against his country (Israel) bombing Iraq's unfinished nuclear plant in Osirak, as I would have done if my country bombed some other country's finished or unfinished nuclear plant - would such a protest take away my credibility as an opponent of all nuclear bombs and plants?"

I repeat the sentiment also expressed in that thread - when I encounter people like yourself, it is refreshing to reflect on all those great and good Israelis who acknowledge Israel's wrongdoing to the Palestinians.

This is a difficult and heroic stance: for people to acknowledge the wrongdoing of their own State takes courage beyond the ordinary.
