interesting that there is none in Limerick.
The number of branches is a little misleading.
The SWP has changed its branch structure over the last few years. Large branches have been divided up into smaller ones. One present day branch, particularly in Dublin or Belfast is probably equal to two old branches.
This change, as far as I can gather, is not unique to the Irish SWP. The British SWP altered its structure to something similar to that of the present Irish group and now has subdivided them again into "cells". With this further step old style weekly branch meetings have been replaced by less frequent multiple branch gatherings.
I think that the theory behind says that we have left a "downturn" period when more rigid and defensive structures were necessary and entered a new period of radicalisation when flexibility will be needed to absorb increased recruitment.
The Irish SWP is certainly bigger than it was so at least some of the branch growth probably reflects real growth.
Perhaps one of the SWP members in these parts could enlighten us more thoroughly?
I was pleased to see the TCD branches, but I am disturbed that there is no Howth/Sutton or Dalkey branch. Perhaps someone could be found to be a branch office in these constituencies?
A branch can be set up by two people, my time with the horrible swp was dogged by non stop phone calls (after i told them to fuck off). Anyhow they wanted me (after i told them to fuck off) to set up a swp branch in my home town with another person, so in theory new swp branches need only 2 people. How big are they?
I am dismayed by the comments that have greeted this tremenduous anouncement. Well done the SWP! This is really fabuluous news!!!
To all the rest of you busy knocking this organization I have this to say "how many papers have YOU sold?".
