in Middle East terror, war, and bloodshed.
& not just the middle east.
Why didn't someone say something?
Why didn't someone write letters?
I don't know - even go out onto the street and shout!
Were we all scared?
Were we all intimidated for reasons of political party membership, business contracts, not rocking the boat, or seeming stupid at the wisdom of the war on terror we all must have helped Bush declare?
Can anyone of us deny supporting this war?
Did we think people would laugh at us?
- mock us and make fun?
Why didn't our elected governments and politicians and newspapers say "this is a really bad idea Mr Bush"?
Should we have talked about it more and had pop concerts?
Was African poverty and climate change and jellyfish everywhere in the really salty water more important?
Is it too late to say sorry now?
When will it be over?
Is it getting better or is it just the same?

are we all
brave little
soldiers?

Ali Nassir of the Iraqi Council for Solidarity and Peace said that democracy was a long- term commitment. "If you want to build a house it may take a year, but to build human beings it takes the future. The U.S. Army didn't bring democracy."

It may not have brought basic equality either. On the way out of Camp Lima Base were two latrines, one marked "Iraqis Only" and the other "No Iraqis -- Americans Only". Asked for an explanation, Major Booth replied that this was due to 'cultural differences'.

'best website on the .net for Iraq news...'

Obviously this must be a different Juan Cole to the one who claimed Bin Laden struck on September 11 2001 to avenge the Jenin 'massacre' of 2002.

Doen't anybody here remember 'The Salvador Option' and what that implies? Targeted Killings and use of Terror Tactics to battle Insurgency in Iraq. Since most of the So Called Insurgents are Iraqis, it is likely the Bush Iran-Contra Junta will Target Iraqis with their Terror Tactics. By Targeting Iraqis and using the Corporate Media to Smear the So Called Insurgency, the Bush Iran-Contra Junta (Who Did the London, Madrid, and 9-11 Bombings) is creating division among the Iraqis and Justifying a continued Military Presence in Iraq, and that means a Vietnam.

who are attempting to smear juan cole right left and centre because of his eloquent opposition to the Frontpage McCarthyite campaign against teachers in US universities who do no stick to the likud/neocon playbook in their teaching about issues concerning the Middle East. Aint that right Troll?

You mean where Juan Cole is citing the the September 11 Commission report and Jack Straw as well as Paul O'Neil?

Dude, if you're going to cite someone and you care to be taken seriously, cite the REAL source - not some hack job repost without attribution to the orginal source. Webpages are updated you know? and Juan Cole, unlike yourself, is willing clarify and/or retract his statements if need be.

If you go to the bottom of his post you will find his futher explanation....

Redjade,

The link I posted was not the original Juan Cole site. The reason I didn't link to the original Juan Cole thread was because Juan Cole has subsequently stealth edited any mention of his 'Jenin led to 9/11' pearl of wisdom.

stealth edited?

In other words, he corrected himself.

Shame on him.

Still, if you read the paragraph at the end of Juan Cole's webpage you will learn more. I wouldn't put much trust in the validity of a 'reposted' page on geocities.com - especially since there's no link back to the original. Your friend Martin Kramer could be setting up a virtual strawman.

about Suicide Bombers in Iraq....

There is not one historically documented case of a Suicide Bomber striking in Iraq before the US/UK invasion and occupation.

This is new for Iraq.

"If our goal is to liberate Iraq and help it create a democracy, I can't think of a worse place to go for lessons than Israel"

U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Michael A. Vane recently traveled to Israel to "glean lessons learned from [Israel's] counterterrorist operations in urban areas."

Is Israel's approach toward the Palestinians really the model we Americans had in mind when we sought to liberate Iraq? I am Jewish, and while I support Israel, I do not support its policy of an eye for an eye. I do not say this as an idealist. I say it as a realist. If the policy worked to decrease the violence and get both sides to talk peace, I might support it. But our Army is choosing a model that has clearly failed in Israel by almost anyone's standard.
