'Eco-anxiety' affects 78% of children under 12, a crisis that teachers say they are unable to cope with, new polling by Greenpeace has found. The solution? More ruthless exposure of children to alarmist material.

THE ARMS TRADE GOES BOOM

A day conference on the arms trade in Ireland and further afield

Belfast, Saturday 21st May 2005 from 9.45 a.m. – 4.00 p.m.
Organised by INNATE and the Peace People.

Venue: Friends Meeting House, Frederick Street, Belfast

Conference fee: £5 (£3 unwaged) including a light vegetarian lunch.

Speakers:
Kevin Mullan, CAAT/Campaign Against the Arms Trade
Patrick Corrigan, Amnesty International
Peter Doran, FEIC/Foyle Ethical Investment Campaign
Tim Hourigan, Mid-West Alliance Against Military Aggression

Introduction
“The arms trade goes boom” is an opportunity for those interested in the ethical issues behind arms production and distribution to get together and network, taking place in the city which has the largest arms manufacturer in Ireland (Thales Air Defence, previously Shorts Missile Systems). The morning will largely consist of talks and plenary discussion; the afternoon will have a choice of workshops. Everyone is welcome – both those who have experience of campaigning on arms issues and those who would like to learn more.

It is four years since a previous conference on the arms trade organised by INNATE in Belfast, ‘War Process, Peace Process’. Since then the whole of Ireland has been increasingly sucked in to the world of ‘dual use’ and arms production.

Venue
The Friends (Quaker) Meeting House, Frederick Street, is on the north side of the city centre, between York Street and Clifton House (start of North Queen Street). The Concern office is immediately in front of it. It is 20 – 25 minutes walk from Central (rail) station, a bit less from Europa/Great Victoria street bus station. Free car parking is available behind the Meeting House for participants

Stalls and material
You are welcome to bring relevant books, magazines and leaflets for sale or giving away but please indicate if you require a table. Likewise if you want to bring a display.

Child care
Please indicate if you require child care and, if so, the number and ages of children.

Lunch
A light vegetarian lunch will be provided.

Hospitality
If you’re coming from afar and need accommodation on the Friday or Saturday nights, we don’t make promises but please ask and we’ll see what we can do.
