Organising meeting for Mayday 2005 - Wed. 6th April Wed. 6th April 2005 - 8pm - WSM office. Organising meeting to discuss possibility of 'Stand Up For Your Rights' Campaign around Mayday 2005 Following discussions with a number of groups and individuals, the WSM are interested in helping to put together a ‘Stand Up for Your Rights’ campaign around this year’s Mayday. This would involve production of leaflets outlining briefly workers’ rights in a number of key areas – minimum wage, holiday entitlement, sick pay etc. We would aim to get these leaflets into the hands of as many unorganised workers as possible, organising at least one high profile leaflet distribution whereby we would get as many people as possible to participate in a leafleting session on Henry St. or some other city centre location – dishing out leaflets both on street and to workers in shops. This Mayday event could be the beginning of a longer-term campaign aimed at encouraging the organisation of unorganised groups of workers. |
