Green Party leader Trevor Sargent has criticised the Government for not allowing members of the Opposition to see a document on neutrality before it is debated in Europe. (taken from RTE news) The Government will call on European Union leaders to support its declaration on neutrality at the Summit in Seville this weekend. Mr Sargent said that the matter should have been debated in the Dáil first. The Minister of State for European Affairs, Dick Roche, said the declaration will be debated in the Dáil in due course. This is an obvious delaying tactic on behalf of the Govt. |

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3Two questions spring to mind, (a) is the policy of the Green party, one of calling for a no vote. (b) If the policy of the party is still opposition to Nice, how does Trevor Sargent reconcile this policy with his willingness to join a government where his "partners" would fully support the Nice treaty.
A fair point and that could go for Sinn Fein too.
I would love to hear an answer from both parties
To be fair, the Greens did make renegotiation a pre-requisite for entry to Government. They insisted it was a deal breaker.
as for SF, the same is most certainly not true
