Final countdown for Sellafield and other GR news

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Sunday March 03, 2002 16:30author by joe Carolan - Globalise Resistanceauthor email globalise_resistance at yahoo dot comauthor address The other world which is possibleauthor phone 087 9032281Report this post to the editors

Globalise Resistance : Organising for Sellafield, mayday and Seville - meeting Tuesday 8pm, doyles bar, College Green March 5th. Anti Sellafield action - 3pm Central Bank, Dame Street Saturday March 9th

There is now just 6 days to go until the Nuclear Meltdown Drill in Dublin - next Saturday march 9th at 3pm, Central Bank, Dame St.

The aim of this protest is to raise as much awareness as possible of the potentially catastrophic effect of a nuclear accident in Sellafield and to highlight the ongoing danger that Sellafield poses to the lives and environment of people in Ireland.
Groups from Sligo, Belfast and Dundalk are planning to come down - the
Green Party conference in cork also took hundreds of posters and
leaflets...

There will be a full dress rehearsal for the demo (including acting lessons!) on Friday Evening in the National College of Art and Design NCAD from 6.30pm to 9pm – we need as much help as possible so don’t be shy!

As well as the anti-Sellafield action there are many other future events that Globalise Resistance are hoping to organise and which we will be discussing at our monthly meeting in Doyles Bar, College Street, Dublin on Tuesday March 5th at 8pm.

i've previously published the full text of the final document from the Porto Allegre World Social Forum last month on this site.
It outlines the inspiring aims of the anti-globalisation movement internationally and also some guidelines for upcoming days of action which regional groups should mobilise around.

The main two dates which we would like to discuss action for is Mayday and the mobilisation against the EU summit in Seville on June 22nd-23rd.

Some people are also discussing going to the protests at the G8 summit in Canada this summer.

Calling all anti-racists!:

Globalise Resistance in Dublin have been active in the fight against racism and recently organised a 600 strong demonstration in protest at the racist murder of a Chinese student Zhao liu Tao in Beaumont.
But life for immigrants in Ireland will get dramatically worse if we don’t respond again to the latest racist threat.
Racists in Dublin are planning to get organised around the election campaign of hardline racist Aine Ni Chonaill from the Immigration Control platform who is standing in the Dublin South Central constituency.
We want “no borders, no frontiers” and we need to discuss action on this issue at Tuesday’s meeting.

If you can’t come to the meeting in Dublin be sure to make your own views known by posting on our website – http://globaliseresistance.cjb.net, by e-mail – [email protected], or contact us by phone/text on 086 4098186

(We are currently trying to expand and update the Globalise Resistance website so if anyone would be interested in working on this please contact garry at [email protected])
