The Politics of Privatisation

Socialist Forum

The Politics of Privatisation

Speaker: KIERAN ALLEN
(Author: The Celtic Tiger: The Myth of Social Partnership)

Red Parrot, Dorset St
Monday 31st January
8pm

The government has suggested privatizing the ESB even though the experience in California has shown that privatization leads to black outs and dearer prices.
A present it is trying to impose bin charges Dublin. Once they get through it will lead to privatisation – and the removal of the waiver system.
Everywhere the same arguments are used to justify privatization. It is supposed to lead to more efficiency. It is supposed to be better for the customer.
At this meeting, Kieran Allen looks at the experience of privatization internationally and argues that the opposite is the case.
Privatization leads to a worse service, under-investment in vital resources, corruption and super-profits.

The Red Parrot, what an appropriately named venue for an SWP meeting. Come along and hear 'his masters voice'. Learn how to talk faux-marxist gobbledygook like the others. Oops, London calling, line has changed, got to appeal to soft Labour /Green types in vain hope of setting up a mini-Respect in Ireland. Out with 'Marxist forum', in with 'Socialist Forum'!

Most likely to hear: 'Kieran has been the leader since 2004BC because of his intellectual brilliance, his years of experience and the members keep electing the slate he tops, unopposed.'

Least likely to hear: 'Yes we have made mistakes, our party is a completely undemocratic mockery of marxism, from now on we will engage in critical thinking and Kieran has retired'

I'd almost go along for the crack!

Good to see someone putting on a talk or discussion about this topic with the talk of privatizing the ESB.
A person might disagree with swp but if 'Red Parody' has organised somethings imiliar I'd like to hear about it. Its easy to mock- harder to do something about it. Fair play 4 the meeting.
