Good move.

When they take peace activists to their places - courts and jails - we go to theirs - Dail, Aviation Building, the Embassies of War Making States, Shannon Airport.

Keep the initiative you look great, wonderful photography once again RedJade.

Congratulations for those out on the streets offering solidarity after a 2 year haul through the courts.

Congratulations Mary for staying staunch.

Next up the Halloween Shannon Banshees in Ennis Court mid-February.

For the last few weeks he has been made to look like a right c*nt what with refusing defence witnesses. But there you have it; he saw the case as purely one to do with vandalism; he saw MK had no prior convictions and sentenced her accordinly.

I am glad now the right wing tosspots won't get to pontificate with glee at her having to do custodial time. Everyone( except the tosspots) is happy; Anti War because Mary does not have to do actual time; the State because they were able to lay down the law without recourse to precedent.

Of course, the planes should not be there, but the fact is that they are and, for the moment, must be protected by state law. Who knows, other foreign planes could be atttacked if say, they werer private Belgian planes, for instance, with links to, oh, lets say, animal testing.

Of course, animal testing is no way on poar with so called pre emptive strikes on more or less defenceless third world civilians. Nonetheless, one man' freedom fighter is another man's freedom fighter, so, in this case, the sentencing did do it's best to be impartial.

I hope ya'll can see I'm looking at this objectivly. Cheers.

Congratulations to Mary on staying strong through a gruelling process of silencing of your defence. The atmosphere outside government buildings was one of celebration yesterday, and everyone was uplifted by the lack of a custodial sentence.

2 years suspended is still a criminal sentence. Posters to this site are behaving as though Mz K was acquitted. My point being if she follows it up with something else maybe minor then the State can seek to have her sent down for time in chokey..

As another contributor suggested; She needs to put brain in motion before revisiting Shannon.

God Bless Mary Kelly, one of my true heroines. As I said to Malachy McCourt on WBAI Radio Pacifica (99.5 FM NYC) call-in this week - I'm claiming my own part-Irish antecedents in solidarity with all of the anti-war humanity!

Down with bullet-heads, wardawgs, Blair, Bush and their ilk!

Peace and Love!

Carol Taylor, first black U.S. flight attendant,

Mother of two,

Grandmother of one.

If you are anti-racist why are you trumpeting the fact you are black? Achievement and morality is colour neutral.

author by R. Isiblepublication date Thu Dec 02, 2004 18:16author address author phone Report this post to the editors

And hence it's relevant that she mentions that she was "the first black flight attendant", not that she is simply "black".

I'd think that she knows about struggle and standing up for yourself and recognises those same qualities in Mary Kelly.

What is so special about being a flight attendant? Now it would be really impressive if she'd overcome racism to be the first Afro American female 747 pilot...

and specifically denied jobs on the basis of your skin colour and then being the first person of that skin colour to get a job that doesn't seem special to "someone" that can't comprehend that no-one of that skin colour was allowed to hold a job that seems unimportant to that "someone"?

I'd imagine that the first black bus driver and the first black gynacologist feel equally proud.

Now, we're not adding any more information to the subject matter so we'd better keep quiet.

Sorry I couldn't make it over to give support in person, but well done Mary, not a great result but I'm seeing peace activists having to settle for what they can get these days. Will I see any of the Pitstoppers at Block the Builders? Stopping the next gen of nuclear weapons. (All illegal of course)

Does it stike anyone as ironic that a violent action is deemed a victory for peace does this then justify the american argument that invasion will ensure long tem peace, please people watch the analogies that can be drawn

author by pcpublication date Fri Dec 03, 2004 15:27author address author phone Report this post to the editors

for every time you say the act was violent you'll have people reminding you that you can 't be violent towards a piece of metal

You are still innocent of real crime although found guilty in an Irish court after a farcical trial. The judge who muzzled you and your defence later suspended your sentence - maybe a belated conscience was at work.
To Carol Taylor: Congratulations on your ahievements and on your good work. We in the anti-war community feel proud of you and are at one with you.
To Bubblebath: could you not dream up some less trivial and grudging comments from your Jacuzzi/bathtub?
To Brian Aylward: To compare the US invasion of Iraq (including all the atrocities at Abu Graib, Falluja etc) with Mary Kelly's lone action of axing a plane that was part of that invasion is disingenuous.
Re the terms "violent" and "violence", you can throw them around as you have done to describe an honourable action and make people believe it is bad. The words have many meanings - and with the ongoing evolution of the English language new nuances are added to the definitions; these will be influenced among other things by place and time. At this time and in this place (Ireland) "Violent action" has a pejorative meaning. This you well know, I take it that this is why you used the term to describe Mary Kelly's action against war which appears to cause you so much concern.
And the use of offensive language in reply to pc further detracts from your argument.

Well done Mary, you should never have had to go to jail for acting as the conscience of our nation. A brave act and a good result.
Regarding the financial cost of repairing the plane... it is a sure sign of a society that has lost its humanity when the 'economic bottom line' is cited more often than the cost in human terms.

Destruction of property Vs Destruction of Humanity.
Too close to call?

Destruction of Property?
