Shannon brings Black&Tans to Iraq.Says one daubing
So the IAA flew a pack of fox hunters from co Tip to Iraq?HELOOOOO!!!!98% of the world doesnt know or give a fiddley who the Blackand Tans are.
Next pic that has me laughing out loud,the very incompetant painter with the beard.What is he supposed to repersent??

Firstly the "Black and Tans" were named after a famous pack of hunting dogs from East Limerick not Tipperary, being named after the Pallasgreen Scarteen Hunt (ie Black and Tans) This phrase was coined by a journalist Mr. O Sullivan on a train to Limerick from Limerick Junction when he encountered a group of such new police recruits. The actions of the U.S. military in Iraq are quite similar to the Black and Tans actions in Ireland ie bombing houses, shooting protesters and innocent civilians, and the torture of prisoners. Bush's motivation in Iraq is very close to Black and Tannery namely fighting for financial profit not ideology.

Wether or not you agree with the size of style of the Catholic Workers protest look at the issue. Then decide if you are for or against them.

Also Lone Gunman you might be surprised to know that the title "Black and Tan" is quite well known in other countries. In Ireland the Title is very poignent and is known to young people who have no other knowledge of history or politics

The man in the painter's overalls has got his colors wrong. Perhaps he should go for red, or crimson would be even better, with an emerald background. Use a very fine brush, with 100,000 spots. Would look better and would represent Ireland's blood money in this illegal war. Why had these innocent Iraqis have to die after 9/11? To make the US feel secure? Ireland is in denial, big time.

We keep vigil 2 hours a week at the Aviation Authroity on Burgh Quay against Irish complicity in the contiuing war on Iraq. (Mondays 4pm - 6pm all welcome!")

To vigil - is to remain awake while society slumbers in the face of danger. Whether it be in stupor of full belly cynicism from the trolls above or a cultivated ignorance of those "covering" the war & Irish complicity in the invasion, occupation and plunder of Iraq.

This week as we kept vigil the U.S. war machine put Fallujah to the torch. Images of Cobras and death from the air rained on a town with no air defences. Images of crusader troops dressed as off a Star Wars set against a people in t'shirts, runners and tracksuit bottoms defending their homes

A war machine that commuted through Shannon Airport to slaughter indiscriminately in Fallujah. A war machine that has trashed the Geneva Conventions so comprehensively it's choice of tapeloop propganda on Sky News is footage of kicking down the doors of a Fallujah hospital, binding and gagging the medical staff. It went on to kill 40 people in the hospital. The trashing of the Geneva Conventions does not even rate as an embarrassment it is presented as a propaganda piece.

This war - like all wars - is built on a lie.
-A war against WMD that was never there.
-A war against terror by turning Iraq into a breeding ground for revenge/terror.
-A war to bring civilised values to Iraq through the policy of sexual abuse iin American gulags.

The lie in Ireland is so big and bold that Ahern fasttracks a hostage to hs death by imposing Irish citizen on Biggerly claiming an ambience of neutrality. Is Ahern so stupid/deluded or so cynical that he wishes to use the last hours of hostage's life to prance the world stage while ushering 10,000 invading troops a month through Shannon. The people whose children he is putting to the torch aren't so stupid or so cynical.

So it's important that a handful of us (if that's all there is) stand in the streets of Dublin outside the Aviation Authority and scream "the Emperor has no clothes, no justification for the provison of Shannon Airport to slaughter the children of Iraq".

If there was a large active visible peace movement we would be at least temporing the excesses of the war lord (see Nixon's retreat from nuking Vietnam!)

It is instructive that more significant resistance is emerging from within the British & U.S. military than civil society or the civilian peace movement. Father of a Black Watch soldier deployed "Geoff Hoon is a two faced git!"
Black Watch soldier whose brother was killed last week "My brother didn't agree with this war for Bush's oil profits!"

Aamon Hennacy was once asked "Why do you vigil against the war machine do you think you can change the State?"
He repsonded, "I vigil so the state doesn't change me!"

But anyway. How is this "vigil" going to stop anything happening.?Shannon is 120miles Sw of Dublin,thats where the action should be

Well it's instructive that the father (of the Black Watch soldier) who made the threat HASN'T been arrested for threatening the life of a Government Minister in a national daily. This points to the lack of a popular base for the war in the British military let alone the British public. The British Government can't/won't move against a father with a son deployed even after such a statement...because it doesn't have the public support.

As someone remarked recently, Mary Kelly would haveprobably had a better chance of an acquittal in England at this time than in Ireland for the disarmament action she took on a US Navy war plane. The British public are much more aware that they have been lied to about this war than the Irish public and they are a lot more enraged....partly because a lot more has been asked of them. Sending their young men and women off to kill and die on the basis of the lies.

WHY?....because all that is asked of us in Ireland to co-operate with this illegal war is a cultivated ignorance about what is occuring at Shannon on a daily basis. A hi profile TV reporter who recently interviewed me expressed shock that he recently got off an international flight at Shannon to stumble upon 300 US troppos in desert camo. So that what has been a daily ocurence for the past 18 months registers shock for a top flight reporter in Ireland- you can imagine how much in the dark the rest of the country is here.

WHY VIGIL AT THE AVIATION AUTHORITY?

The Aviation Authority is one of the 3 Govt Departments that has to approve landing for the war planes of the U.S. war machine en route to slaughter and plunder in Iraq. All we are asked in Ireland is to remain asleep to the high crimes we are co-operating with at Shannon. That it why it is important to vigil - to stay awake.

It is significant that the most visible opposition to the war during this week that Fallujah has been put to the torch has come out of dissidents in the US & UK militaries (& their families/communities) more so than the civilian peace movement and civil society.

If you are seriously opposed to this war you should seriously consider making that public, by making a sign and standing in the street. (near a Govt. Building, Top Oil petrol station, Shannon Airport, US/Brit/OZ Embassy) for an hour a week.

Yep, Shannon is most significant it is where the rubber meets the road in terms of Irish complicity in the US war on Iraq. Met a woman at Speakers Corner 6 weeks ago, she started vigilling at the Aviation Authority, experienced some community and solidarity and two weeks ago was arrested as a banshee ini a nonviolent resistance action at Shannon on Halloween.

Bush received 60 million votes from righteous Americans. He is supported in his efforts to create democracy in Iraq by Bertie Ahern, who has just proclaimed himself a socialist. So where's the imperialism?
And Richard Nixon in 1972 won the greatest landslide in American election history against the anti-war candidate George McGovern.
So stop the guff.
