Irish Labour History Society Conference

category national | anti-capitalism | event notice author Friday October 08, 2004 11:42author by Jim Monaghan Report this post to the editors

Labour Historians gather to discuss past struggles and their lessons if any for current and future struggles

Below please find an interesting set of lectures and debates. The preliminary sounds very interesting with a comparison of the different attitudes of White (later an anarchist), Connolly (Marxist and Socialist Republican) and Larkin (Syndicalism). Lysaght has written extensively about the Irish Soviets. Hanley is best known for his book on 30s Republicanism.
The sessions on the Health services should also be interesting given the distorted service we now have. The 1916 proclamation talked of cherishing children Ms Thompson will have something to say about the reality in the 26 Co state.Ms Morrissey played a great role in exposing the scandal of the Symphisiotomy operation which was used instead of Caesarean operations for Catholic ideological reasons. Desmond should be interesting on the clashes between the state and sectarian and vested interests.
Please note that some titles are provisional only.
