Debt and Trade: Time to Make the Connections

These conferences often feel as if they are not for us and very academic but If your going to protest outside the world bank or the imf perhaps go to this and learn about from this angle among others.
The Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice, on behalf of the International Jesuit Network for Development (IJND), is organising a conference, “Debt and Trade: Time to Make the Connections”, which will be held on Thursday, 9 September 2004 in the National College of Ireland, Dublin.
The Conference will examine and evaluate how the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Trade Organisation address the connections between debt and trade policies. It will assess the practical implications of these policy coherence efforts for developing countries and their people and consider the alternatives.
Speakers will include: Peter Henriot SJ (Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection, Zambia); Cecilia Lopez (International Gender and Trade Network, Brazil); Dr. Leonardo Lanzona (Ateneo University, Philippines); Julian Filochowski (former Director, CAFOD); representatives of the World Bank, the IMF and the Irish Government.
