Colombia Three to get civic reception

Colombia Three to get civic reception

Lord Mayor Royston Brady has announced that he will be hosting a civic reception in Dublin for the Colombia Three, on their return from captivity in Bogota. This will likely be his last civic function.

DUBLIN, IRELAND - Lord Mayor Royston Brady has announced that he will be hosting a civic reception in Dublin for the Colombia Three, on their return from captivity in Bogota. This will likely be his last civic function.

"The courage and dignity shown by James Monaghan, Niall Connolly and Martin McCauley during their incarceration has been nothing short of breathtaking," said Brady. "The least I can do is to show them how much Dublin appreciates what they've been through".

Colombia's Vice President, Francisco Santos, said yesterday his government had agreed that the men could return to Ireland for the ceremony, pending approval for this move from magistrates hearing the appeal.

A spokeswoman for the Bogota Three Support Group said: "We are delighted with Lord Mayor Brady's announcement. It is no less than these men deserve."

It is also understood that a party could be held in Dublin's Phoenix Park to welcome the trio home, with RTE's Joe Duffy acting as MC of the event. The OPW have declined to comment on the use of the park for this event.

I'm furious that my taxes are going to be spent on a party for these terrorist scumbags.

No wonder the taxpayers of Dublin dumped this stupid idiot of a mayor.

Great! Fianna Fail is recognizing Sinn Fein's mandate and is paving the way for the left-wing republicanism of Sinn Fein to become, eventually, a party of govenment.

i can't believe that there are people in the world so self absorbed and cut off from reality that they don'ty realise this is a piss take.
The Farc 3 have not been given permission to leave their fav tourist hotspot Colombia, nor is even Officer barBrady idiot enough to turn up at the airport if they ever do let alone giving them the full italia 90 treatment.

But I'd prefer to read this kind of material on a humour site rather than on Indymedia. I think there are too many credulous souls out there who may have taken this to be a serious story (what with Royston being such a cretin and Fianna Fáil being so desperate to court the votes of the supporters of the republican murder-methods foreign education brigade).

Sheesh... and all this time I thought indymedia was a "humour" site. If your looking for SWP opinion and campaigning I found their site, just go to www.theonion.com The endless growth of a "grassroots, anti-everything as long as it suits our agenda, sea-change uprising" is plain to see on this wonderful humourless website ; )

fair play. But yeah one should remove this post as, well, some of the people will believe anything all the time.

Just goes to show the level of intelligence of Sinn Fein Haters and rabid Eoghan Harris types raa raa raa I hate Sinn Fein froth at the mouth etc etc ...

But a good laugh. Someone should ring up Royston and ask him if its true and will he go on the record to say its not true. Then email the tabloids and RTE and say he is denying plans to host a reception for the Columbia Three - see, he is soooo mad in the head (don't forget the graffiti he scrapped into the Today FM studio desk) that the media types may just believe that he actually was considering a reception.

Angry taxpayer wishes to ignore the clear facts of surrounding the Colombian three, all of whom were found NOT GUILTY of the speculative imaginary fictious terrorist charges brought against them.

It is in fact the corrupt Colombian junta government who have seriously wasted their taxpayers money, time and energy bringing false charges and accusations against three innocent irish men without having any physical, or forensic evidence against them. You cannot just arrest people and imprison them for 3 years on a whim.

don't you think royston ought have gone?
yep.
someone should do exactly what ho-ho-ho suggested or was it ha-ha-ha?
It's like you can't go on record saying your dad was kidnapped by loyalists or Men In Black or anyone just after one of the worst bombings in the state and threatened
just *to get votes*

Especially if it isn't true.
on second thoughts, leave Royston.
He is a perfect Fianna Fail representative,
and has suffered a vote of castigation probably aimed at the PDs.

maybe I'd ask his secretary, to encourage him to use his considerable political influence to make public the Garda Records on the supposed incident that he suggested on the 10th of June would validate the story afte being accused of using the issue to gain votes for FF.

Not being normally resident in Ireland, I often only hear "chinese whispers" about political developments in general. And this story did seem to give the impression of adding new and crucial information to the events of 1974.

I therefore quite naturally thought it could help the continuing trauma caused to the Irish nation both at home and abroad in relation to 1974 and also assist the continuing struggle of relatives of the many dead and injured to finally "know the truth".

So what happened?
Rosyton?
You of all people can clear this up.

RTE researchers have confirmed that his father was abducted the night before the bombings.

While I have absolutely no axe to grind for RB, and glad that he was not elected, it once again highlights the pathetic nature of the press in this state.

Quite funny. Congrats to the person who posted it.
But of course there's a deadly serious side to Colombia. Witness the murder a couple of days ago of about 35 peasant farmers. The FARC took them out, hands tied behind their backs, and then riddled them with bullets. It seems the poor victims had started growing cocaine for the paramilitaries, and the FARC waned to keep control of the trade. What the hell, Irish FARC "supporters" (who have never been within 5000 miles of Colombia) probably think this kind of atrocity is just fine.

Is it still illegal to travel on a forged passport? I usually associate this kind of thing with criminals and terrorists. How innocent are these three really?

"I usually associate this kind of thing with criminals and terrorists. "

Perhaps you are thinking of the Iran/Contragate affair. When US Military and Intelligence operatives used stolen/forged Irish passports during their travels to sell arms to Iran to get cash to give to the Contras to support their terrorist campaign against the democratically elected Nicaraguan government.

Yes both the US military referred to and the Colombia 3 should be in jail for using forged passports.

author by jacobpublication date Fri Jun 25, 2004 11:46author address author phone Report this post to the editors

The US may be a hegemonic state with colonialist and imperialist agenda. Or is my cynicism resulting from a total
lacking of working class consciousness. I dont think the material dialectic between us will produce a revolutionary transformation in me, as I fear I am still in the throes of the false consciousness of the patriarchal rural bourgeoisie. A nation-state like the US is the culmination of the historical dialectic and in a nation-state, a person can achieve the highest level of self-realization, because his interests qua human and qua citizen are merged in a new synthesis, that a person is thus most free in a nation-state, in the sense of having the most opportunities for realizing his full potential, not that In their “dialectic of history,” every major historical political/economic arrangement (pre-history, ancient empires, feudalism, capitalism) is a thesis that “contains the seeds of its own destruction” (its antithesis), and so is bound to be replaced by a further synthesis

author by pat cpublication date Fri Jun 25, 2004 11:52author address author phone Report this post to the editors

But do you accept that a US citizens "Self Realisation" includes the right to back practically every tin-pot dictator in the world? How many times has the US State acted to smash basic democracy, in countries such as Chile, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, South Vietnam etc etc. Basic democracy that is taken for granted as part of the "Self Realisation" of the US citizen.
