Pro-war Euro Candidates, Name and Shame

category national | anti-war / imperialism | opinion/analysis author Wednesday May 12, 2004 15:30author by Eoin Dubskyauthor email info at votedubsky dot com Report this post to the editors

On January 29, 2003 a motion was proposed in Dail Eireann by Tony Gregory and Joe Higgins which could have stopped all US military overflights and refueling in Ireland. Among the candidates running for the European Parliament elections today, are men and women who voted against this motion, and instead supported the Government's pathetic apologia for western power and corruption.
Name and Shame No.1: Seamus Kirk (FF)
Name and Shame No.1: Seamus Kirk (FF)

"Foreign Conflicts: Motion" was moved by Tony Gregory at the end of January 2003, when thousands of American soldiers, their weapons and explosives, had yet to pass through for the invasion of Iraq. I reported on the matter here last February ( http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?id=28244 ), and still believe that it was a far more significant vote than the one on March 20th, when the invasion had already begun.

Seamus Kirk (FF) is running as a Euro Candidate for East (Leinster). He voted that day with the government against the anti-war motion. Indeed what they did was even more craven than just that. The Fianna Fail, PD coalition voted to gut the motion before them of all its contents and insert instead a disgusting ode to western power and corruption.

When Mr Kirk comes a' knocking, recall that his hands are soaked in the blood of Iraqi children.
