amBUSH2004! fundraiser in Galway

category national | anti-war / imperialism | event notice author Thursday May 06, 2004 11:41author by Con Da Leeeza - amBush2004! Report this post to the editors

There will be a metal gig fundraiser for amBush2004! in Richardsons Pub, Eyre Square, Galway on Friday 7th May at 9pm. The lineup is Diatribe, Sherman M4, and Trigger (Punk/Metal). Admission is 5 yoyos.

The latest E.U.-U.S. summit is to take place in Dromoland castle in Clare, in the west of Ireland, on the 26th of June.

George Bush is to land in Shannon airport on Friday the 25th, and to be ferried from there to the summit place by helicopter, before going
on to a NATO meeting in Turkey.

AMBUSH 2004! was initiated from a meeting attended by representatives of Mid-West Alliance Against Military Aggression, Galway Grassroots Group, Cork Grassroots Group, and Dublin Grassroots Group.

From our last meeting on the 18th of April we are proposing the following strategy:

We have local protests before Bush arrives – these to be directed at Top Oil, the company which re-fuels the American warplanes at Shannon, or Esso, in view of their financing of Bush's election campaign, and as a way of highlighting the oil-profit-war axis.

We echo the call for a demonstration at Shannon airport on the night of Friday June 25th coming out of the initial Anti-War Ireland meeting.

We propose this takes the form of a `Hands Around Shannon' carnival, an encirclement of the airport with candles, torches and other light bearing objects, and drums, guitars, pots, whistles and other noise making instruments, plus kites and whatever else that makes a spectacle. Our aim is that the maximum number of people come to participate in these protests.

We aim to establish an international peace camp in Shannon, at least for the duration of the summit.

The next AMBUSH 2004! meeting takes place in Limerick, at 2pm on Saturday the 8th of May.

Emm...do you know how big Shannon Airport actually is? More to the point, we won't be left anywhere near it! It might be a bit more practicable if plans were laid for camping on the main road to airport for the night. Bit of muzik, a picnic, etc. etc. I guess the Anti-War Ireland demo will have a good few thousand and numbers like that on the road having the craic could be conducive to a really good protest. Should be colourful too, and we should wear yellow jackets to confuse the cops!

As an American of Irish descent and a veteran of the U.S.Army, I find your socialist anti American opinions abhorent and ignorant.
Ireland provided millions of immigrants to America when she was not able to feed her own.America was a growing country and welcomed the new arrivals. My grand parents included. The Irish thrived in America, serving their new home in many facets most notably in the U.S. Military. There has been a long bond between the two countries. I and many, many Irish Americans resent your actions as socialist Irish in protesting our President and the leader of the free world. Who if not America will have the courage to stand up against evil in this world?Who I ask? You? Dont make us laugh WHILE YOU ARE MAKING US PUKE.

We're still at a very early stage of evolution, where the lesser, smaller apes will blindly follow the greater, bigger apes and fulfil their desires unquestionably. The bigger apes will roar the loudest and stand on a hill to wave their large fists while the singuarly ineffectual apes look on in awe of their masters. The fat apes will desire more and more power and more and more area in which to exert that power. They will send the under-developed apes onwards to take and murder for these daddy apes and the ignorant and hungry mass of unthinking apes will obey immediately as they are incapable of questioning, of either themselves or their stronger and slighty more intelligent masters. No true knowledge can be grasped by these apes as they have not reached the stage yet where their tiny brains can begin any meaningful process of independent thought. They are lost and scared as they find themselves in a vast wide world which is full of dangers to them and in which exists strange phenomena unfanthomable to this breed of primative beings e.g other things which look similar to themselves but act and sound differently. The fear induced by this sometimes brutal and horrific world causes them to huddle together in groups who feel the same and who always, always gather themselves under the umbrella of the largest and most vocal apes.
