Fact: The Americans are losing in Iraq

category international | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Thursday April 08, 2004 21:17author by David C. Report this post to the editors

As requested by George Bush, the Iraqi resistance have 'brought it on'....

THE SHIITE REVOLT IS BROAD. High-level U.S. intelligence source cited in the NYT today say that the uprising against the Americans in Iraq is extending far beyond Al-Sadr's militia. Even Shiite moderates have been severely radicalized over the past few months, and it seems likely that the events of the past week have greatly increased that trend, say the intelligence officials. Only the Kurds are still passive.

US MEDICAL EVACUATIONS APPROACH 20% OF ALL TROOPS IN IRAQ. As of March 13th, the US military had made 18,004 medical evacuations during Operation Iraqi Freedom, representing 17.1% of the 105,000 'permanent' US force in Iraq (although the real number probably approaches 150,000). The figures were announced by the Pentagon's top health official, William Winkenwerder Jr., assistant secretary of defense for health affairs. The greatly increased fighting over the past month have clearly raised this percentage to at or above 20% of the official US force numbers in Iraq. That's TWENTY PERCENT.

THE IRAQI PUPPET GOVERNMENT IS SEVERELY WEAKENED. Despite steadfastly insisting on a "handover" of "sovereignty" on June 30th, the American administration still cannot say to whom "sovereignty" will be handed. Signs of the 'Governing Council's' collapse are everywhere. The Iraqi Justice Puppet ("Minister of Justice") Abdel-Rahim Al-Shibly had told national press that he had not been aware of any arrest warrant against Sadr. The Iraqi Interior Puppet ("Minister of Interior") Nuri Badran has resigned.

THE IRAQI POLICE & ARMY ARE IN DISARRAY AND REVOLT. The Iraqi Interior Puppet ("Minister of Interior") Nuri Badran resigned today, announcing that ""Bremer is not satisfied with the performance of the interior ministry". This is probably linked to the many reports that American-trained Iraqi police units have been fraternizing openly with Shiite militiamen, as well as with Sunni rebels battling US marines in Fallujah. Both Sunni and Shiite resistance fighters regularly use American-supplied Iraqi police vehicles in attacks against Americans.

THE AMERICAN "COALITION OF THE WILLING" IS DISBANDING. The coalition of countries that were persuaded by the US to send symbolic forces to Iraq are reconsidering. Reports about either announced withdrawals, reconsideration or poll-leading political opposition have been made in the past week in Spain, El Salvador, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Guatemala The Netherlands, South Korea, Poland, Thailand Australia, Japan, Norway and Kazakhstan. Inquiries into participation in the war are underway in the United Kingdom, Denmark, Australia and the United States.

WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION STILL NOT FOUND. Well, duh...

A small group of thugs with RPGs can make a big bang but the outcome is never seriously in doubt. These criminals are reviled by most Iraqis - which is kind of obvious when you consider the feebleness of the resistance: opportunistic roadside bombs etc.

They will be squashed and Iraq will get the government it's people deserve.

Look at the big picture, democarcy is coming to the Middle East!! At last!! It may take 50 years but the genius of George Bush is making it an irreversible process!!

You should be happy.

Unless Tarragon is Observer, it seems highly likely. How even Fox News and CNN can still support this war is beyond my comprehension.

I'm sorry to disappoint you morons.
The average Al-Sadr militiaman is armed with an AK-47, an RPG or 7.62mm light machine gun and maybe a few grenades and maybe the odd .50 calibre heavy machine gun. They have limited ammunition and limited food and water and limited numbers of fighters.

No body armour.
No night vision goggles.
No Predator drone spy aircraft.
No spy satelites.
No light armoured vehicles.
No heavy main battle tanks.
No helicopter gunships.
No fighter bomber air support.
No heavy artillery.

Nothing.

They have inflicted merely dozens of U.S. and Coaltion casualties from sporadic sniper and grenade attacks and hit and run ambushes.
Al-Sadr's militia has suffered hundreds and hundreds of casualties from stand up battles where they are totally overwhelmed by numbers and firepower.

What about the quality of soldiers that they are up against?
The average Marine or Army grunt has undergone the most extensive training with small arms and unit tactics on earth.
The U.S. Army counter insurgency operation doctrine is unequalled.

The comparison with the Tet offensive by American critics is justified by for the wrong reasons.
The Viet Cong were decimated and the whole operation was an unmitigated disaster.

I expect Al-Sadr's head will be a paper weight on General Sanchez's desk before very long.

which it is doing an increasingly good job of being with the mass collective punishment presently taking place in Fallujah

If Iraq remains ungovernable

If the coalition breaks down further

then Bush Out of the White House

Blair out of No 10

US out of Iraq - not on their own terms

No, no, you don't see. The Americans ARE losing in Iraq because they cannot control the country nor ever will. A revolution is beginning. The American aim of invading Iraq was to control the country as a puppet state and use it for its oil and to make Israel stronger. They have failed and the only way they can control Iraq now is to kill all the Iraqis. The IR aren't going to defeat the US militarily in the sense that they're going to annilate the whole US war machine but they are going to defeat them by making Iraq a place where its impossible for the US to stay or have any say in. Every dead American soldier bites deeper and deeper into the heart of America and because of the effect that dead soldiers have on public opinion in the US the Iraqis will win a victory free from the American entity just like the Vietnamese did, only easier because of the American fear of Iraq becoming another Vietnam. The US adventure in Iraq is an unmitigated disaster and will get worse by the day. The US miltary may slaughter by the hundreds and thousands to try and 'win' but their efforts are futile. Iraq belongs to the Iraqis and nothing can kill that desire now for freedom from a proud and courageous people. Americas' fucked, basically, but I don't expect you to understand the spirit of whats now happening. Only when America goes running with its tail between its legs will you see how the Iraqis won. History always repeats itself.

Due to lack of support from ordinary Iraqis.

If this is the best 22 million Iraqis can throw at the international colaition then the future Iraqi deomcracy is assured.

Why is it that so many people want this handful of thugs and extremists to succeed??

...,in 1964, a French journalist asked General Ho Chi Minh how he could ever hope to defeat the world's most powerful nation with his poorly-equipped, third-world army of irregulars.

He said "They will kill many of us. We will kill a few of them. And they will tire first".

The heros of the Iraqi resistance are fighting to keep all of us free from American domination. And they are winning...

but history which we ignore at our peril suggests the USK occupation forces will pack up and leave the country in chaos sooner rather than later, having lost without solving any of the root causes, and will leave themselves and us in more trouble than when they started!

Daren I'm not sure you should really get into the 'numbers game'. Trying to justify US atrocities because you think more US citizens have been killed in the war on terror than the citizens of the countries the US have invaded is wrong on two accounts.

1. Why should one act of barbarism justify another. If its wrong for bin Laden to slaugher civilians in New York than its wrong for Bush to slaughter civilians in Fallujah.

2. If you do the maths the numbers don't work out for you. The Iraq war seems to have killed 10 - 15,000 civilians (the US isn't bothering to count but others are).
