I think the label "racist" is not good. There are many ordinary working people that will have certain anti assylum seeker sentiments, due to media hype. These people can be won over. These people are the ones to win if this referendum is to be beaten. To use the word Racist may put these people off as it seems as if you are labelling them racist and not just the referendum (which the referendum is!)

I think that something like "Citizenship Rights Coalition" or "Defend Public Services and Citizenship Rights Alliance". I dunno something like that.

I'll be campaigning against this referendum. But will be not too sure about leafleting working class areas with CARR leaflets if they keep that name. I'll probably end up giving the SP, SWP, or other group a hand out.

What are the numbers for non national children born in Ireland? What is the split between mothers here on work permits or with partners who have work permits, those legally seeking asylum and those here illegally?
This data would throw a lot of light on the percieved 'Problem'.
If anyone has this information, please publish on this web site. McDowell does not have it or is embarresed to publish it.

Also given the age of most non national here on work permits, its hardly surprising that some of them have children!

Given our demographic trends, it appears tro me that we should be encouraging these people with thier children to come here and stay.

The main thing the government want to do by bringing in this amendment is to win an election. I think the No campaign should therefore as well as campaigning for a no vote, they should call on people to vote against the government in the Euro and Local elections.

- and all other parties who support the referendum or stay neutral on it?

Yes 'ec' I agree fully. Candidates from parties that sit on the fence or support the referendum shoudl also be punished at the polls. If they want the elections turned into a referendum on race, Bring it on! Only vote for parties and independent candidates who oppose the restriction of citizenship rights!

The campaign could very well call on people not to vote for candidates that do not oppose the referendum, but if it starts endorsing candidates who oppose the referendum it will start to get divisive very quickly. We don't want to see the CARR name as just another endorsement logo for candidates to put on their posters. Some of those posters must be getting crowded already and people like RBB should appreciate the fact that they don't have to add another endorsement to the heap they already have.

I agree 'badman' any campaign that is established shoudl not go about endorsing candidates. What's the point? What it should do is simply urge people not to vote for parties and candidates that support a Yes vote in the referendum. The reason Labour, FG and the Greens will stay neutral or call for a Yes vote is because they think calling for a No will harm their elections, well lets make sure that anti racists don't endorse these parties and reverse the tactics of the government.
