Hunger Strike Ends Boycott Continues at Coke

category international | consumer issues | news report author Monday March 29, 2004 12:00author by Gearoid - Lasc Report this post to the editors

partial victory for workers at Coke in Colombia

The workers at Coke have won a partial victory.

the workers at Coca Cola in Colombia have won a partial victory. Coca Cola had refused to negotiate with them over the closure of 11 bottling plants in Colombia as part of the international restructuring of the company.

During the hunger strike coke officials had called into the hospital to tell doctors that they shouldn't treat the workers until the hungerstrike was called off.

The paramilitaries also issued a statement where they said they would finish off the union.

Coke however, have bowed to pressure and have agreed to sit down and negotiate with the union on this issue.

The boycott of coke called as a result of the murder of union activists still goes ahead. However, if we keep up the pressue we can get them to back down on this issue as well.
the bravery and courage of these trade unionists deserves the backing of all trade unionists and solidarity activists.

Ger Healy sabbatical SU executive “Boycott the Boycott”
Could UCD and Trinity provide us with proof that our S.U.’s argument is unfounded?
We’re looking for financial records that prove the ban brought no financial implications on their SU etc.

thanks.
