Peaceful demonstration against terrorism and expression of support for the bereaved.

7pm today (Friday) the Spire , O'Connell St. Dublin.

A MESSAGE FROM THE SPANISH COMMUNITY IN DUBLIN:

Hiya,
Following the initiative of Spanish Connection UK, we want to get the

rejection towards any terrorist action and our support to the affected
families, today Friday at 19.00h at the Spire in O´Connell Street. This is
an alternative initiative by those who cannot attend the demonstrations in
Spain and because of the pasivity of the official authorities in Dublin
regarding this issue.
A big hug in this black day.

The best thing you can do is support Aznar and Bush in their war against terror.

The creatures who did this will not be impressed by marches or witty posters.

The rotten PP Party Spanish government are calling the main march in Madrid. These disgusting cronies have a title for the march "Against Terrorism, For the Constitution". This excludes lefts, catalans, basques, gays, and trade unionists who all diagreee with the spanish "consitution" and the rule of "law". These protests should be under the title "Against Terrorism, Against Capitalism, For a Bolshevik Party".

For a Workers' Movement against Terrorism and Capitalism!
Mass Action for Basque self determination and an end to Aznar's cuts!
For a Bolshevik Party to overthrow capitalism!

Amigos,

I cannot attend your march tonight because I live in Holland. People on this thread should realise this is a gathering of people in mourning, and those who feel for them. May you get through your pain, Spanish friends.

My condolences to everyone everywhere affected by this dreadful event.

I came down Henry Street and around by the GPO to go down O'Connell Street. There were a few hundred people mostly around the spire on the traffic island and on the road on the GPO side. I had not been aware that this had been planed, but quickly realised what it was about.
Most of the people there seemed to behave in a dignified and quiet way, but there was what appeared to be one well organised group with banners and flags. These people were also chanting what appeared to be political slogans, at least it sounded like a political chant. Who were they and why did they compromise what was otherwise a solemn and dignified vigil?
I appreciate that emotions can run high at a time like this, but events like this should not be allowed to be hijacked by people with an agenda.

You ever met anyone Spanish? Marking something with noise and vigour would be very much part of their culture. They're not the British aristocracy!

And the chant was (probably) The People United Will Never Be Defeated (El Pueblo Unido Jamas Sera Vencido). It was the main chant at the big Madrid vigil/march.

"El Pueblo Unido Jamas Sera Vencido" was being chanted all over spain yesterday. The only agenda is anti-terror and defiance.

Hi everybody,

I was touched last friday when I saw the amount of spaniards that showed up at the spire, I couldn't hold my tears. I went to the demonstration against the Bush's War in London last year...and I couldn't help thinking that probably many of those who were in those trains marched against that war...

It was a vigil for the victims, although unfortunately, we always have to find in those demonstrations people who can't keep their mouths closed and take advantage of the situation to make political campaings instead of showing respect for the familes and victims of the masacre.

It wasn't the right place, the right moment.
I'd like to know how many of those did actually voted for the general elections last sunday. Maybe, some of them were really busy campaigning...
