A small meeting of CEHG took place in The Strand, Omeath, on Sunday morning (29 February 2004) - a lovely morning in this Co Louth beauty spot. Morning Meeting in The Strand
Noreen Kettyles attended last Sunday (29 February 2004) morning’s meeting of Cooley Environmental and Health Group (CEHG), which took place in The Strand, Omeath. She gave a positive assessment of the group’s application to participate in the community leadership program to be organised by LOCUS (Belfast) in conjunction with the University of Ulster. CEHG are confident that their participation will be confirmed at an early date.
A motion of sympathy with the O’Connor family on the death, recently, of Michael O’Connor was passed. Go ndeanfaidh Dia trocaire ar a anam dilis, cliste, Cuailgneach.
Progress on the organising of the “round-table” conference on cancer research was reported. The conference will take place on Sunday 18 April 2004 starting at 3.00 p.m. sharp in The Strand, Omeath. The following persons have already indicated their intentions to attend: Seamus Kirk TD; Dr Dennis G Pringle; Fergus O’Dowd TD; Leonard Hatrick, Ardee Town Council; Lorna McGuigan of Gent Computer Enterprises; William Jones, Belfast (engineer in fish processing); Gabriel Grehan. A few other names were pencilled in. Anyone interested in attending the “round-table” should contact CEHG through their website.
All the financial arrangement arising out of CEHG’s winter workshop (“Fabrication, Machinery, Dundalk and The Environment) was finalised. “The grant we received for the workshop from the County Louth Enterprise Board was a big help,” stated group treasurer, Sean Crudden.
A vote of thanks was recorded to web-construction trainers, Maggie Bohan and Sandra Moody. The results of the training course they conducted in LEADER+ offices in Ardee are to be seen on the CEHG website www.cooleyehg.com which the group hopes will be a useful tool for the group and for community development in the peninsula.
Sean Crudden complimented the secretary of the group, Archbishop Michael Desmond Hynes OMA PhD, on the submission on behalf of CEHG he made to The Expert Group on Mental Health. “We will all be looking forward to seeing his submission on The Department of Health website along with all the others from those who took part in this interesting public consultation process,” remarked Sean Crudden who acted as chairperson of Sunday morning’s meeting.
The next ordinary meeting of CEHG is fixed for Sunday 25 April 2004 starting at 11.30 a.m. in The Strand, Omeath. New members are always welcome.
