don't waste your time. The Irish govement will never support such a manifest.
Tell the Catalans to get onto Bush and Blair. Sure wasnt it their pre-decessors who found a state for the Jews who wandered the earth after losing their way out of Palestine? Although some theories suggest that Howard Carter found scrolls in the Pyramids to suggest otherwise???? Who Knows??
By the way Im all for a Catalan State but somehow I think its a waste of time getting onto our spineless government.
to think 6,000 Catalans wrote to Parnell.
him with his ne plus ultra, and them with their y plus ultra. I wonder who they were?
I shall find out more, and report back.
Till then, support the Catalan language, and it's conversion to official european status, now that you've all made sure gaielge is safe... and push the "stateless nation / european region" envelope as far it shall merrily go please. I don't have to tell you all why, because you're rightously clever and tippy toppy perceptive.
It night be nice to send 6,000 Irish signatures back a hundred and so years on...
Irish Gaelic isnt a recognised European language!
And we dont even have an independence day,
christ even luxembourg has an independence day !
I'd advise the catalans to look elsewhere for pragmatic support. Come to the irish governmenty if youve got some dodgy contracts to launder or if youre looking for back door tax breaks and less than regular passport deals, otherwise Feck off.
I dont really hold out much hope for the plight of small 'stateless nations', as all nationality is to be plastered over in the new empire.
Not sure what you expect of Pres Mary Mc as she has did little in the way of supporting the unity of this county and I can't see her ever doing so either or the rest of the southern government.
As for support within europe, it doesn't even recognise Irish...
surely you would do better in establishing class solidarity among irish and catalan activists which would be against the united states of europe...
I like your website, yes it looks radical (maybe even very nationalist in parts) but why look to europe for acceptance?
strange, if not a bit 'cap in hand' reformist politics to think that europe can help your struggle or Irelands for that matter!
Visca Ireland! Visca Catalonia!
The reason we dont have an independence day is because we're not independent, in terms of the north and our disregard for our indigenous culture
An historical footnote
IRA freedom fighter, Ernie O'Malley, was activally involved in supporting Catalan freedom fighters in the twenties.
Sean McBride told the story to a friend on mine and it is mentioned vaguely in the biography by I think English.
I don't know which party he was involved with but it would be an interesting thing to write up
The Tripartite Government of Catalonia this week had it's first public tiff. For the instruction of all interested in the development of this curious alliance of Social Democratic Labour with Republican Left Independence with Marxist Left Greens, I thought it would be nice to know what caused the end of their "honeymoon":
CCRTV. oh the CCRTV you say, well I asked thw barman where I have my morning coffee, "¿what is the CCRTV?" and he didn't know either, but it's the TV and Radio authority.
I think this is very significant.
So should Ireland ever see such a truly rainbow pact of the Left in the future, (which you know you will because I'm patiently showing you all how) watch out for who will control the Telly. - "Control never changes"%-)
Meanwhile, the Catalan speaking region of Valencia has launched at long last it's own indymedia collective the cyber-geographic location of which is deemed to be "northern Valencia", the discussions having lasted a long time and touched upon pressurising Barcelona imc to change it's name to "paisos catalanes-imc" (but in the end the BCN people won out, perhaps because we live more in BCN than in paisos catalanes?) the electronic bit being a server attached to New York half of which is located presently in Massachusetts the other half being a big secret.
You may find it's pages easily at this link:
http://laplana.nysindy.org/
and never really have to worry about where the server physically is at all @ all, which is the magickal mystery of the internet no?
