category galway | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Sunday December 07, 2003 20:54author by vinnie Report this post to the editors

The shannon security thugs operated by the Irish state on behalf of George Bush stopped and harassed the Galway bus to shannon on saturday.

wavin pipe and poster paint stolen by gardai under firearms act

Despite all our best efforts they confiscated several items including wavin pipe for linking arms at the blockade and 50 euros worth of poster paints to be used for painting "bomb shelter" umbrellas. Also taken were bamboo sticks which were the struts of a puppet display. This was done under something clled the "firearms and offensive weapons act"

Once they'd got their kicks and held us up sufficiently they let us go our merry away.

when the SWP are not allowed placards at a protest. Not that I'd particularly want placards at any protest, I do feel that even this is a bit much. The Dublin IAWM bus pulled up to the check point, and each and every piece of wood that was attached to the posters had to be taken.
It's a bit funny to note that the bb got their flagpoles through :)
