COASTWATCH EVENT

Molesworth Street, Dublin 2
9.30 am till 4.00 pm

9.30 am Signing in and materials
10.00 am Launch of all Ireland survey 2002 and 2003 results Part 1: Waste
11.00 am Presentations for Waste related improvements 2002/3
12.00 noon Workshop: Dredging and Dredge Spoil Disposal
4.00 pm end of official programme

Context: This 3 in 1 Coastwatch December event will focus on waste management
and action ? in line with the Irish government?s waste theme for the European
Presidency.
SURVEY RESULTS: Coastwatch Ireland volunteers North and South visited over
1000 survey sites in autumn 2002 and then put all effort into action to
address problems raised. The 2003 survey was restricted to select ?tag areas?
which had been surveyed most years, for trend monitoring of certain items like
litter and oil pollution. Waste related results will be presented, while
wetland, water pollution and related results will be published later.
PRESENTATIONS: We have massive waste problems, but there are individual
bricks of excellent practise and spots of real improvement we will give
recognition.
The DREGING AND DUMPING for the Port industry workshop is to review the way
this process is managed in areas shared with our most valuable Natural and
fishing resources. Our aim is to pool participant information, experience and
good will to bring about significant improvement in law (Sea Pollution Bill,
Water framework Directive Regulations) and practise.

Registration is essential as space is limited and a name list must be given to
the E. Parliament office. Registration form enclosed.
Registration Fee: 20 euro including papers, refreshments and light lunch
Coastwatchers 2002 or 2003 gratis. Students and OAP 5 euro

Acknowledgements:
We wish to thank Patricia Mc Kenna MEP for organising the conference room,
sponsoring coffee and chairing the afternoon session. Patricia is vice
chairman of the European Parliament Fisheries Committee. An acknowledgement of
all who contributed on the day.
