Good on TCDSP for alerting us all to this. This demo should be supported.

and if you are free beforehand why not go to the Dail at 6 pm:

‘Noise for Choice’

Wednesday November 26, 6pm

The Dáil, Kildare St.

The pro-choice group Alliance for Choice has called a pot-banging protest – ‘Noise for Choice’- outside the Dáil on November 26.

If it wasn't for the guarantee that people would show up and protest, these speakers, Aine Ni, wentworth, wouldn't be invited to speak. However, because everytime some one shows up and has an opinion the extreme left disagrees with, there is a demo, and more publicity for the event it make sense to invite them.

She's not racist, trust me. She's anti-immigration, and I and most Irish people agree with her.

These people are coming here uninvited, if we don't send them back, more will come, until we too in Europe end up in a humanitarian disaster.

Secondly, many of these people bring diseases, particularly AIDS. In the UK, the rate of AIDS infection is up 20%, that's over 6000 new cases in one year. Of those numbers 1800 were contracted in the UK, thes rest is made up of immigrants to the UK with AIDS and a small number of people ifected while abroad.

So, it's not just economics or culture, there's a health issue too. If these were white Americans, I still wouldn't want them coming here with AIDS.

Ní Chonnail is clearly racist. She is using race and a so called 'tide of illegal immigrants' to whip up anger against ethnic minorities. She was on the radio during her election campaign when she said abour Romaninans 'These people are Roma!'. She is a clear racist, this is the kind of thing Hitler espoused.

Most people in this country DO NOT agree with her. Where are you getting such utter rubbish from?? Most people in Ireland are NOT racist.

There is enough wealth in this country to cater for all the immigrants and more. THe real spongers are not asylum seekers, immigrants or bin tax protesters. THe real spongers are the banks, the corporations, the property spectulators, the ansbachermen and their politicians. These are the people are a drain on this country, these are the people who do not work and live off the backs of workers. These are the people responsible for double tax while they pay none. Immigrant workers and asylum seekers are our allies and comrades not our enemies.

Ciara K,
You are a disgrace. AIDS is indeed a big problem in sub saharan Africa. Why? Its because of the neo liberal policies of the IMF and World BAnk. These countries cannot afford decent public health and education to minimise the spread of AIDS. They are also denied access to anti AIDS drugs by the multi national firms. Africans are not any different to us, AIDS is NOT indemic in them as you would like people to think.

To use this AIDS argument is absolutly disgusting, most immigrants do not have AIDS or any disease. To try to give the impression that they do is to say that balck people are diseased and dirty. You are racist scum.

Ciara, you do not speak for the Irish people. The Irish are far more intelligent and adaptable than you give them credit for.
Most Irish people judge the newcomers on an individual basis, they don't just lump them all together under the kind of distorted stereotypes that you and Ni Chonaill promote.

Good on you Ciara. You keep expressing your opinions as you're entitled to. And so long as you're figures are correct you can ignore the brainwashed fools. The majority of people in Ireland wouldnt be racist but at the same time they do have issues with the fact that our country is being taken for a ride by the thousands of illegals coming to leech off our prosperity. Granted not all are here for that reason but the vast majority are. Still at the same time most racist comments are from numbskulls who havent a clue about the situation which is further made difficult by a lot of misdirected anger which should be pointed towards the government which has helped enflame the situation. And for the brainwashed-- Just because you dont agree with people coming to Ireland sponging doesnt mean that you are a racist. People are coming here as refugees from countries where there isnt major strife.

THB Celtic Tiger Ireland Took a Wrong Turn

Date -
Wednesday 26 November 2003

Guests -
Garrett FitzGerald
Enda Kenny
Martin Mansergh
Michael Murray (Sunday Business Post)
Aine Ni Chonaill

Now well into the new millennium, the time has now come to examine the fundamental shifts in Irish society that occurred in during the ‘Celtic Tiger’ period of the nineties. We must ask what will be the lasting legacy of that unprecedented period of social, political and economic change and progress. The Ireland of the 21st century sees simultaneously a much more prosperous society, but also what many would argue a much more unequal society. The peace process in the North, development of the country’s infrastructure and a boom in the creation of jobs has progressed alongside increases in homelessness, alcohol consumption, violence, racism and rampant consumerism. Nonetheless a new, confident Ireland was born.
Are we strangling ourselves with our own success, or have we coped well with the biggest boom in the history of the state? And more importantly, who’s responsible if it all goes down the pan?

Battling it out will be former Taoiseach and occassional Conversation room visitor, Garret FitzGerald. Manning the respective trenches will be current leader of the opposition Enda Kenny, Michael Murray of the Sunday Business Post and former senior advisor to the Taoiseach Senator Martin Mansergh and vocal Corkonian "immigration critic" Aine Ni Chonaill.
Let the battle for the soul of modern Ireland begin…

Quote Ciara: "These people are coming here uninvited"

Well after laughing for about ten minutes, I had better respond.

How many of the Irish diaspora were 'invited' to their host countries? I know I was never 'invited' to any of the four countries I have lived in.

If you argue that non-nationls should go home, then you better be ready to deal with an influx of millions of Irish exiles coming home and taking their 'rightful jobs'.

As for the AIDS thing, thats just plain sick. Jesus you sound like Kevin Myers.

Speaking Myers, did anyone hear him hang up on Nell McCafferty on live radio the other day. That was even funnier than your comment - and thats' saying something.

I picked this from another site and thought youd be interested in it. Especially the last line

"Zizek contends that today racism is just as reflexive as every other part of postmodern life. It is not the product of ignorance in the way it used to be. So, whereas racism used to involve a claim that another ethnic group is inherently inferior to our own, racism is now articulated in terms of a respect for another’s culture. If racists once said, ‘My culture is better than yours’ postmodern or reflexive racism centres around the assertion that, ‘My culture is different than yours’. As an example of this Zizek asks ‘was not the official argument for apartheid in the old South Africa that black culture should be preserved in its uniqueness, not dissipated in the Western melting pot?’.

What is at stake here, according to Zizek, is the fetishist disapproval of cynicism: ‘I know very well that all ethnic cultures are equal, yet, nevertheless, I will act as if mine is superior’. The split evident here between the subject of enunciated (The ‘I know very well….’) and the subject of the enunciation (the ‘nevertheless I act as if I didn’t…’) is even preserved when racists are asked to explain the reasons for their racist behaviour. Typically a racist will blame his or her socio-economic environment, poor childhood, peer group pressure, and so on in such a way as to suggest to Zizek that he or she cannot help being a racist, but is merely a victim of circumstances. Thus postmodern racists are fully able to rationalize their behaviour in a way that belies the traditional image of racism as the vocation of the ignorant."

The Irish were invited to the US in the period 1840s onwards. As were Poles, Russians, Swedes, Germans. Go look it up in the history books.

Irish people were subjects of the British Empire s they could travel freely to England, Canada or australia, as they did in large numbers.

Ireland has a reciprocal agreement with the UK since 1922 allowing passport-free travel between the islands.

OK, in the US many Irish outstayed their visas in the 1980s but it was clear that Ireland and the US have a longstanding shared cultural heritage and really the numbers were actually far less than those who recieved Green Cards or Donnelan Visas. Those who were caught by immigration didn't start claiming that they would be killed by the UDA if they went home, using all the legal loopholes they could find to prolong thier stay at taxpayer's expense: they just got on a plane.

If you're honest with yourselves, you will realise that the exodus of Irish people was an entirely different situation to that which confronts the EU today.

Thee people are uninvited, we have no cultural links with them (the integration of Muslims being a big problem), and yes, if you look into the matter, these people are increasing the numbers with AIDS in the EU.

Don't take my word for it, it's not propaganda, it's merely the truth.

Ill repeat what I put down before but this describes whats coming from your messages.
"postmodern racists are fully able to rationalize their behaviour in a way that belies the traditional image of racism as the vocation of the ignorant."

And the person that wrote this also said that its pointless tring to argue wtih a postmodern racist by showing how their 'facts' are false and that they display a huge amount of greed of character etc. because its inscribed on their ideology (whether this is developed through education religion etc.). You can claim you have 'facts' on your side but truth is primarily subjective and it is in the interpretation of the 'facts' belies the nature and intent of the person interpreting them. It is explictly clear that you ARE a racist as is Ms. Ní Chonnail. I wont call you scum or whatever but maybe you should think about what you are saying and how you are interpreting the 'facts'.

Of the 110 heterosexual cases diagnosed in Quarter 1 and 2 2002, 80 (73%) were born in sub-Saharan Africa and 13 (12%) were born in Ireland. Among MSM, 78% of newly diagnosed cases were born in Ireland. Among IDUs, 86% of newly diagnosed cases were born in Ireland.
