A few photos from the historical walking tour of Galway during the Grassroots Gathering this weekend.

The walk was part of a two day session of workshops and discussions, which ranged across a wide variety of topics including ecology, class, street art, squatting and autonomous centres, the bin tax, Shannon, the upcoming EU summit, alternative media, and many more.

The Grassroots Gathering happens roughly ever four or five months, and is a coming together of groups and individuals that work within non-hierarchical, non-authoritarian frameworks, often with an emphasis on direct action and autonomous organising.

In amongst the many workshops were two pleniary sessions, which dealt with the issues of the upcoming summit during Ireland's EU presidency next year, and long term resistance to the continued refuelling of war planes in Shannon.

The next Grassroots Gathering is scheduled to take place in Cork in late February/early March 2004.
