Gothic director wants to build 100 meditation palaces
At a press conference in New York's plush Plaza hotel, David Lynch launched a $1 billion fundraising campaign to build 100 'peace palaces' across America, part of a plan for 3,000 buildings across the globe, one in each major city. Inside the palaces up to 300 devotees will spend their time meditating and 'yogic flying', which practitioners say is a form of levitation. Once the peace palaces are up and running - the theory goes - war, violence and crime will come to an end. His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi called on America's wealthy to quickly establish a $1 billion endowment fund to create a group of 8,000 peace-creating experts in the United States to promote permanent world peace. Maharishi said that the group, to be established by the US Peace Government, will create coherent world consciousness so that negativity does not arise anywhere on the globe and the whole world family enjoys invincibility, affluence, and peace - now and in the future.
"One billion dollars for peace is nothing compared to what is spent on war - but it is enough to save the world," Maharishi said. Maharishi then added a strong caution to the wealthy: "Establish the endowment and bring the light of peace now - or darkness will bring destruction to your nation."
Top leaders announce plans to raise $1 billion
Following Dr Hagelin, several of America's top leaders, including retired corporate president Robert Brown, real estate developer Robert LoPinto, successful entrepreneur Lincoln Norton, and award-winning film director David Lynch, revealed plans now under way in cities across the country to raise from top foundations and billionaires the $1 billion endowment needed to create permanent world peace. Mr LoPinto also announced that he is contributing $1 million towards the construction of a Peace Palace in Long Island, New York.
Maharishi offered praise for the efforts of Dr Hagelin and the leaders. "It is the readiness of the wise and competent men of America, led by Dr Hagelin, that will save the world," Maharishi said.

There is a drive to build 3,000 Peace Palaces world wide, including 3 to 4 in Ireland.

So we just send the big man a cool billion and trust him to bring about world peace? That would be a bargain at twice the price. I don't suppose that the big man would want to sleep with our wives and children too to bring about world peace that bit faster? Sure it can't do any harm anyway.

The theory is brilliant, I can't find a hole in it anywhere. Some backward people would link war, violence and crime with social deprivation and property relations, but this is nothing more than superstition. The correlation between these social problems and the density of peace palaces has been firmly established by vast numbers of methodical sociological surveys.
One last question - where do I send my life savings? and can I send my children by airmail?

As crazy & unworkable as the above idea seems - I don't think its about 800 times less crazy as the US$800 billion being spent annually on arms sales globally.

I wonder will the peace palaces allow the poverty stricken and downtrodden of the areas that they inhabit sleep in the building rather than on the streets. Similar to the way the Catholic Church uses its huge tracts of land to help the poor in Ireland. HA HA. The fools the fools.

What price world peace? David Lynch believes he has the answer, and has set the figure at a comparatively svelte $7bn (just over £4bn). The cash will be used to fund a programme of transcendental meditation in schools across the world, with the aim of transforming the depressed, anxious and drug-addled adults of tomorrow into an army of blissed-out pacifists. Joseph Hayden, president of the charity, told the Irish Examiner the 250 people would be meditating to spread calm among Ireland's people who are described as a collective consciousness?
He said: He look upon accident rates and crime as a demonstration of or an effect of disorder on the collective consciousness.
We see this group of 250 individuals as a way of reducing stress in society: the vibes they create together will spread outwards and reduce stress, causing accident and crime rates to fall. It worked in Washington DC.?
In 1993 a group of Maharishi followers spent almost two months meditating in the American capital city and said their vibes slashed crime rates by 23.3%.
Registered with Ireland's Revenue Commissioners as a tax-exempt charity, the organisation also wants to build a transcendental meditation centre in Dublin where the 250 will practise.
But first Mr Hayden is trying to raise millions of euro so he can pay the recruits €8-an-hour to carry out a 40-hour week of meditation and calming practises such as yogic flying, which is a kind of cross-legged hopping.
The Maharishi International University (Ireland) said it has three possible ways of funding its plan for the 250 people to meditate Ireland's crime and accident rates downward for a year:
* Two wealthy people to donate €750,000 each and six to give €375,000.
* 55,000 people to give just over €5 a month.
* Every man, woman and child in the North and the Republic to give 5.5 cent a month to the charity.
Mr Hayden said: Initially we are talking about having one big group of 250 in Dublin but we would want to expand it around the country to Cork, Belfast, Waterford and Limerick?
