M11 is the Spanish way to write 3/11.
The spanish people want the world to connect.
to empathise and assist.
Without political or cultural prejudice.
These days are more than sad, they are the direct result of evil.
192 people died.
800 are injured.
mostly spanish citizens, but 11 other nationalities were included. Tonight at 7pm throughout Spain, flagless, concentrations will join to ask for, to beg for, to pray for Peace.

Spanish readers and TV viewers are shocked and terrified by the carnage.
And spanish "experts" have naturally made the comparison to "the Irish problem".

That has naturally shocked the thousands of Irish who live in Spain.

This is how terror works.
That is abuse.

'spanish "experts" have naturally made the comparison to "the Irish problem'.

I take it then that they are aware of the bombings on 17th May 1974 in Dublin and Monaghan. That massacre was carried out by loyalists with the assistance and full support of the British 'Intellegence Services.

No doubt they will also be aware of the half-hearted investigation by the authorities in the southern Irish state.

in attributing the bombing to ETA.

They hold the theory that ETA assisted or infitrated a morrocan group. This makes sense to PP activists, they know thier enemy and presume that any new enemy may be approached in the same way.
The rest of the country is beginning to see this belief as a sort of article of faith of the PP. it might be too scary for many PP activists to realise that the threat of terrorism from other sources is now higher than (arguably) any posed by their traditional foe.

Since M11, many arrests have been made in both Spain and Morrocco and a lawyer has been held as a material witness in Portland USA.

Indeed the arrests arising from M11 in Morrocco have exceeded the 2000 figure. Spanish people refer to this threat as AlQ. Despite being told by their newspapers of three other groups, therefore we presume the names sit uneasily upon the memory. Maybe that is why the PP stick to the most familiar name.

This reminds me in no small part of the Russo-Japanese War at the beginning of the XX century.
100 years ago to be "precise". (1904-1905)

In a mobilisation that stretched across the globe, tsarist russia went to teach the "little yellow monkeys" a lesson they woulnd't forget. The Japanese won. We still don't know if the japanese would have won if the Tsarist war machine had been a little bit better trained or indeed fed, or had relied in true logistic information. This was always the problem faced by the Russians. We remember that one of the prime functions of the KGB was to report honestly the production figures of the country, becuase no-one could believe the propaganda which had been internalised to such a degree, that one can imagine a peasant thus:-
[at the sack of grain]
(holding a measuring cup)
1 cup in. 5 cups in the book. (of which the poor peasant would probably be gullag-ed for stealing at least 2 cups.
So it was a century ago, that the Russian land force went hurtling on the trans-Siberian railway lines to "whip "little yellow monkey" ass".
(that was a complex double qoutation-
the kernal being the words of Tsar Nicholas 2, the outside being the words of Bush 2)
Unfortuanately the railway lines on the ground didn't match those on the map.
The Tsarist army goto Lake Bakhunin (typing quickly from memory might have got the lake wrong- last big one in the East) and had to squeeze onto a really small but terribly inchy ferry to make 20 hours more progress.
The ferry took only a hundred men a time, or if you want to think like a general a hundred years ago, 30 men their horses and a battery of canon (if you were lucky).

Meanwhile, the Tsarist fleet leaving the Baltic, sunk a fleet of Scottish trawlers, in the pehaps to enthusiastic belief that they were the "little yellow monkey navy". They were still four months from their destination and ahem, on the other side of the world. _literally_.

The moral is this:-

One of the main psychological effects of the cultivation of a national war machine, is the irrational belief that it is _superior_, that it is _invincible_ and that it and it alone, has guaranteed advantage over (almost always) one enemy in particular.

The War machine is very silly.

But it always exists in parallel to the state apparata, accordingly in what we term "peace time", the war machine is understood to be subordinate to the state apparata.
However this is a fiction, resulting only from teh proximity in peace time of the war machine to the productive capacity of the state apparata. In war, the war machine quickly becomes what before has been understood as the "state apparata".

This change, can be understood as a variety of indices. included amongst which are the "perceived level of civillian threat", and the related "tightening of security" which slowly but surely climb the graph.
The last and for our purposes the wost point on the graph is reached when either some locally trusted character addresses seventy year olds and thirteen year olds alike and promises them that only _total war_ may bring peace as Goebbels (nazi) did Jan. 1945
- or a surprise civilian executive signs the Shiva display order and nukes a city complete with all civilians as Truman (post roosvelt USA) did in August 1945.

This perhaps has absolutely nothing to do with the "Friday Times" announced in the article above.
Or perhaps it has everything to do with this
Friday's time.
