"Killer Coke" stencils painted over in various locations around Dublin by two plain clothes men

First they get painted, then they get painted over.

Here is the stencil up on the LUAS hoardings at the south end of O'Connell Street...

About a week ago, I was wandering around town recently when I noticed a fresh batch of large stencils spray painted up on hoardings. Two locations I can remember off the top of my head were the LUAS works at the south end of O'Connell Street, and at the Church being converted into a bar, at the junction of Mary Street and Jervis Street.

The text on these stencils read: "Killer Coke: Coca-Cola bottling plant managers in Columbia, South America allowed and encouraged paramilitary death squads to murder, torture and kidnap SINALTRAINAL leaders and members in an effort to crush their union. Dont buy Coca-Cola products. Info: [email protected]"

The following day, I saw two men spray painting over these new stencils on O'Connell Street. They had no luminous green workers jackets on, and were in their early thirties, roughly. Unfortunately I was on my bike and did not have the camera with me, so could not photograph them in the act.

There is other graffitti around that they did not paint over. There is the usual stuff, "Rats wos 'ere" etc, but there is also some anti war slogans around the other side of the LUAS hoarding. None of this was touched. Down at the Mary Street hoarding the only stuff painted over was also the anti Coke stencils - the anarchist symbols in addition to "No Borders, No Nations, Just people" and "Question Everything" left alone for the public eye.

I wonder who the people painting over the anti Coke stencils were?

1. It's graffiti which makes people feel unsafe and encourages an atmosphere of lawlessness which increases street crime.

2. This whole anti-Coke thing is a smear campaign based on rumours, unfounded allegations and innuendo. A Florida judege has already ruled that Coca-Cola has no case to answer in these allegations.

beyond being tiring and annoying, there must be a story behind Seanin and his bewildered and bigoted postings.... is it a personal grudge perhaps? Was he snubbed at an indyhead party once and still bears out his pain by creating daily invectives towards the likes- or worse maybe, a good kicking he got down in temple bar a few years back left him permanently embittered?
remember what he thinks of us now...
"You people are so pathetic it buggers belief"
How does a person become so cynical?
judging from the times of his postings (rarely before 12.53am) and the frequency of spelling and grammatical error, there is every indication that Seanin is a lonely alcoholic....

Hours each night with detested begrudgers who equally hate him, his boastings at the bar are not enough to sate his need for intellectual dominance- and so he stumbles back from the local, flips on the computer, and regurgitates recycled prejudices onto the screen without a seconds thought on the double-blurred article before him. He lives this persona in his daydreams at his workdesk, the filibuster, the righteous one, imagining the day the men in the black suits come for him, "Seanin, the world needs your help....", yes, it's Seanins mission in life to keep us in line with our thoughts, lest we develop our ideas too far, and he knows best...
nothing original comes from Seanin, lonely alcoholics have no chance to experience empathy, it's all show and a brave face for the emptiness inside, Seanin is a man who needs help... he is the wierd looking middle-aged grimace faced drunk in the corner hissing curses who everyone ignores... he is void of love and angry, he feels superior to us because he believes his pain makes him the more wise... someone has got to open up to this guy or he'll crash into a revolving earth...
Seanin, this is your chance to let it all out once and for all and then rest a bit, give us a break... tell us what you think, all of it, and then go away and develop your character/peronality/soul for a while and let us carry along- we'll still be here when you get back! Think about what you are doing, man! We don't need your seven little brown nuggets of gutter wisdom each night after your few regular gargles! You need a fucking break! Go wank while feeling dominant elsewhere...

BOGOTA, Colombia (Reuters) - Wearing bikini bottoms and not much else, a group of suspected Colombian rebels strut up and down an improvised catwalk in a mock beauty pageant video shown on local television. In what authorities suspect were rare images of a rebel Christmas party, the near-naked men wore improvised sashes across their chests as a host in a ski-mask shouted insults about the male contestants.
"Her measurements are: round, wide and built like the back of a horse," said the host, in an apparent parody of Colombian beauty pageants. He was standing before a poster of Cuban revolutionary hero Ernesto "Che" Guevara.
Army General Francisco Pedraza on Tuesday said troops found the 40-minute video during a raid on a house in southwestern Colombia. He added pageant contestants and the crowd were members of the Cuban-inspired National Liberation Army, or ELN.
In the video, a crowd of women giggled and heckled the men. A Christmas tree stood in the corner of the room.
But the tape's mood shifted darkly, cutting from the party to images of four men with their hands bound behind their backs, who warily declared their ages on camera. The television station said they appeared to have been kidnapped by the rebels, who rely on ransoms for cash.

Thanks joe, its great to know that the morale of the guerillas is so good that they are able to have an xmas party and do a satire of machismo. I think their sense of humour may be a little bit dated, but obviously their intentions are good.

Well I see that Seanin the arsehole is at it again, getting it wrong with the facts. The Florida Judge did not throw out the case against Coca Cola. He stated that due to the corporate structure of Coca Cola the Alien Torts Act under which they are being sued could not be applied. However, he did admit the case against Panamco, Coke's largest Latin American bottler and Bebidas S.A.

As for guerrilla beauty pageants, I am not sure what the point is. What is the point? The posting was on Coke not on the ELN, so why the connection. Would a company in Belfast say, have the right to murder one of its employees on the grounds that the IRA had let off a bomb? Get real and deal with the issues. One of the excuses that the Colombian governments uses to murder opponents is that anyone who opposes them must be a guerrilla, with or without bikinis.

The great thing about stencils is that technique used to make them allows for many others to be made as well. ON average a stencil may be used about four times before it get's too wet and falls apart. Though that is if you're spraying stencil after stencil. It's an idea to keep the basic street kit with you:
Stencil (x2)
spray.
person to hold stencil-
person to hold spray. (point away from body, don't go near the eyes, don't expose to naked flames, soft arc movements, let the paint work, be patient).
5-8 litre Water bottle with side cut out for wallpaper paste or other adhesive, allows you to carry brush inside the past container which has a handle. (very thoughtful) this allows you to paste a stencil if you are doing all this own your own. However you will only get one finished design per stencil. Recent developments have seen combination of stencil work with poster pasting give an added "3D" effect. Multiple stencils can give very interesting colour and therefore depth and perspective to your more "3D" layered art works. Patience is always a virtue with any work of art. Also finding husbands, wives and lifelong partners, and if your mammy finds the class adjustment difficult, leave her to it.

so words on walls make people feel unsafe, and encourages an atmosphere of "lawlessness" on the streets? so the pen turned out to be mightier than the sword after all! personally i think that there's plenty of reasons to consider the city centre unsafe...people distributing and broadcasting information (which, after all is what the stencils are about) is not one of them. violence and street crime have NOTHING to do with any of this!
and as for an american judge finding in coke's favour...is anyone surprised? a representative of the so called "justice" system absolves a major global corporation of all wrong doing...could it really have gone any other way? this is after all a system that disinfranchised a sizeable percentage of its own electorate, allowing their country to be hijacked by a corporate junta, supported by the world of finance and big business...draw your own conclusions...
