Ken Fero presents a rare Irish screening of ‘Injustice’, a controversial documentary which he directed on deaths in police custody in the UK. The screening will be followed by a question and answer session with the Director. Date: Thursday 28th Feb "When Ken Fero turned his camera of Shiji Lapite, he had no idea where it would lead him. Seven years, and hundreds of hours of footage later, he has ended up with one of the most powerful and despairing films ever to have been made in the UK. Injustice is the simple title and complex subject of this film that documents deaths in police custody – mainly black deaths – over a six year period." – The Guardian Screenings of the film in the UK have been dogged by legal difficulties and by attempts by the Police to shut them down whenever possible. Fero and company have resorted in the past to ‘Geurilla’ style screenings, the locations of which were not revealed until the last minute. Considering recent controversies and events here in Ireland, the underlying theme of the dangers of Police unaccountability is timely and relevant.
This screening is part of a series of free public talks and screenings hosted by the NCAD Students Union. For further information or to get in touch with Ken Fero, contact [email protected], [email protected] or phone Annette at 01 / 6364269. |
