Garda Investigation and Intimidation

Warning to other people who have made complaints, that they may be under surveillance and may face intimidation.
5311_1.JPG

I was hospitalised on May 6th and required stitches to my head. I made a complaint the following day and found legal representation. Last Thursday, my solicitor warned me that the Gardai have also set up a group of detectives in Dublin Castle who don’t seem to be concentrating on ‘complaints’, as they may pretend to be, but damage limitation. They may be involved in logging or receiving records of dialled and received numbers on your phone, possibly text messages etc. and that these records could go back a few months. So if you think this information may concern you, take note.

If you have already made a complaint to the Gardai and they wish to take a separate statement from you, ensure that it is only for the complaints procedure, and nothing more. Try to have a solicitor with you if possible. The Gardai may ask to meet up with you, saying it is for the complaint, but it can be for something else entirely. Any statements you give them which aren’t for the complaints procedure can be used against you. If you have reason to doubt that the statement will not be used for complaint purposes, refuse to give one. If you are sure it is for the complaint, stick to Yes and No answers to their questions as much as possible. Do not give them any more details then they already know, as they already have your original statement. Make sure they have it in front of them, and you can see a copy. Ensure that the statement they write down cannot be twisted or construed as to mean something else. If you are not happy with the statement, point out what you want changed. Do not sign it unless you are completely happy.

On Friday (May 17th) I took this photo. The riot van shown was sitting outside my flat for an hour and a half with its engine on. I live in a quiet street in South Dublin, and you rarely see a Garda on patrol in the area, so this was very unusual. What’s even more unusual was that neither the driver nor the other Garda are wearing their shoulder ID. The Garda who was outside the van kept pacing up and down along the road while looking up at my window every so often. After seeing me take some photographs of them they drove off. This was completely out of the ordinary, and is obviously a form of intimidation. Only one photo came out, and it’s not the best, but see what you think. You can just about make out he has no number, but, I admit, its not very clear. If anyone else has similar experiences, post it on to this website. Show them that we cannot be intimidated, and we will get the truth out. It is ridiculous how we get beaten, complain and end up under investigation. I suppose that when the Garda Commisioner Pat Byrne promised the public ‘A full and thorough investigation’, he meant an investigation into the victims. 14 civilians hospitalised; only one Garda off the streets, and he still gets a desk job. This is Irish Justice in all its sick glory. Let’s change it.

I hope you made sure to get the names of the Sargeants that interviewed you. This will be very useful in building the disciplinary cases against the rioters at RTS. This is going further to prove that a culture of corruption and dishonesty is built into the institutional structures of the Gardai. Those two Sargeants and whoever authorised them to ask you in for an interview should be added to the list.

The Gardaí are scared. They have no evidence to back up their claims that the response on May 6th was justified. They have a few lines from the Slate, a handful of names and numbers and alot of pissed off people watching their every move. Their era of infalability is crumbling all around them and they know it. We have to get the message across about what they are doing and to encourage other people who are in the middle of this 'investigation' to post their experiences here. We have to get the message to the mainstream media that the issue is *not* being taken care of and that people are being harassed. The pigs are watching every word we say and it all being wrote down somewhere. Their files on 'Subverts' is growing every day. They're watching us. They're used to that. They just aren't used to us watching them.

We are winning.

I got called in for an interview in Pearse St. garda station yesterday following a complaint I made the previous week. Luckily I read this before I left the house and refused to be interviewed. They (two sergeants) proceeded to interrogate me asking about my level of involvment with RTS ,whether they had instructed me to refuse to be interviewed and whether I feared prosecution (?).They also seemed pretty interested in my background;where I go to college ,my parents occupations etc;.This is all after I refused to be interviewed and it really did seem that these interviews are being used as a means of gathering information for all the wrong reasons.According to the Garda Complaints Board , investigations of this nature are not supposed to be carried out at the same time as their investigations and when a friend of mine rang them today they claimed they knew nothing about it.

'They could have been up to some serious shit'...
by the sounds of it, they were up to some serious shit...hangin around with the van running for an hour and a half outside the gaff of someone who had just made a complaint against them...not the ideal view from your window, is it..?

Jesus. That's not good. How can you tell the difference? I suppose Riot Vans have cages above the windshield. What do you think they were up to?

That's not a riot van.

The last time i saw a garda van like that it was outside the scene of a murder and had all their technical equipment in it.

They could have been up to some serious shit.

Next Time You Get Spooked go out and offer Mr Plod a cup of tea and a dough-nut.
Try to get a camera with a zoom and take note of the van REG.
