Calling Trump a dictator is just silly, says Prof James Allan. Yes, he's bombastic. But he's been elected to secure the border and drain the swamp. And he is the President, in whom all executive authority resides.

Public forum - organised by Dublin Bus workers Defend Public Transport Stop the Privatisation of CIE Support The Campaign To Stop Brennan's Plans *Tuesday June 10TH* *in the Teachers Club,* *Parnell Square West, Dublin 1* *at 8pm* Speakers to include: Dave Manningham Transport worker from Britain - Mick Faherty NBRU Assistant General Secretary - Bill McCamley SIPTU Worker Director CIE -

TO ALL COMMUNITY AND RESIDENTS GROUPS
INVITATION TO A PUBLIC FORUM ON THE FUTURE OF OUR
TRANSPORT SERVICES

In the coming months the Government is set to
introduce policies that will have far reaching effects
on the future of the country's public transport. The
cost of the LUAS project, its effect on other road
users, and its running by a foreign multinational are
just the tip of the iceberg.

Transport minister Seamus Brennan, is set to break up
CIE and franchise out 25% of Dublin Bus routes to
private companies as well as effectively dismantle the
other CIE group companies. You, the public are being
told that these moves will dramatically improve the
services you get. That more companies and more
competition will mean more buses and trains. The
reality will be very different. Such policies in
Britain proved to be a disaster, with public transport
virtually collapsing and more people been forced into
cars. The railways especially suffered with high
profile accidents as a result of safety cutbacks.

This public meeting has been organised by Dublin bus
workers to spell out the effects that the travelling
public can expect should Seamus Brennan pursue his
agenda. It will be addressed by among others a
Transport workers' representative from Britain who has
seen at first hand the devastating consequences for
workers and the public of these policies. We urge all
community and residents groups to come along and find
out what will happen if this government sell off our
state transport companies to foreign multi nationals
and private operators.

The public transport system, in Dublin in particular, could not get any worse than it is. Anyone who regularly waits for a bus for 40 minutes only to have a packed full bus speed by with no chance of another for ages can testify to this. I don't really care about the fate of the employees, they have always stood against change that would benefit the service for everyone just because they might have to deal with some changes in practice. Besides, the point of public tranport is to get people places, not to provide easy jobs and if that offends you, you are probably a richkid asshole with no job or a chauffeur driven limo or something.
