How Saddam tried to cover up Galloway's links with regime

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Thursday April 24, 2003 10:08author by Avi H. Report this post to the editors

Saddam Hussein sought to protect George Galloway by severing the Iraqi intelligence service's contacts with the Labour backbencher, according to an official document found by The Daily Telegraph in Baghdad.

Dear Oh Dear Oh Dear...

I know, I know - it's all a plant - just like all the other facts that are found uncomfortable.

This is a plant by the CIA and M15...it's all a right wing set up. I think the men in the grey suits who forced those Iraqis to march in Dublin celebrating Saddam's downfall are also behind it. Why can't you all see it's a plot???? I mean it must be because it doesn't seem to tally with our narrow beliefs!

As far as we know even documents discovered in "interogation centres" have not been properly searched, information which would uncover the deadly murderers and torturers in Saddams regime. However they do just happen to discover a piece of "evidence" which makes Blair look good.................. go on call me paranoid.

I have to admit to having serious doubts about the miraculous "find" by the Daily Telegraph of these documents.

In saying that, if it was true, so what? If a politician turns out to be a corrupt money grabber - would that really be such a shock?

How does that in any way legitimise the war or hurt the genuine anti-war movement?

The war mongerers haven't been able to plant WMDs yet but they have managed to "find" a few very dodgy bits of paper!!!!!

Oh my god! My concerns about the mass murder of Iraqi civilians and the invasion of Iraq by multi-national corporations were all wrong! I don't think so.

Let the war-mongerers have their fun - we know we were right and the coming years will prove us right. Unfortunately many more thousands will die, not just on the streets of Baghdad but on the streets of Washington and London.

We did what we could - there's no blood on our hands.

If it is true that Galloways support for lifting of UN sanctions was greased along by filthy lucre then all that proves is that power corrupts. This guy already takes £70,000 sterling from the Mail on Sunday for fucks sake. However, it seems a bit likely that the Daily Telegraph (a quality, renowed hotbed of objective journalism) "found" these documents in the aftermath of the looting of the Foreign Ministry which was almost burned to the ground.

The right wing press has a history of fabricating smears against prominent left wingers, like the Zioniev letter in 1924 which took Labour over 40 years to establigh as a forgery. Whether these allegations have any truth in them or not, shit does stick and I suspect the real reasoning behind them is to discredit/punish Galloway for his stance and to provide ammunition for mouthpieces like Avi to bleat continously in their irrelevant attempts to deflect criticism of state terrorism.

cos the Sun and the Times say so!

my god, i never knew. if only i had spent all those years getting my degree in history (learning how to be objective, and learning to read between the lines) reading the Sun. i would be a much better subject than i am now.

i reject all my past links with the anti-war movement and socialism. take me into your zionist ranks.

Even if these allegations are 100% true, this does not make Galloway a traitor by any strecth of the imagination. Saddam Hussien was never an enemy of the british people or crown. therefore galloway cannot be indicted on this count. Mind you, its hardly news that some politicians are receieving money from dodgy middle eastern charcaters. I'm sure mossad have paid out quite a bit to their 'western allies' over the years.

by the way, the Guardian report said nothing we didnt already know. Galloway was cleared on all counts.

At the end of the day, anyone with any proper connections with the anti-war movement has their own suspicions regarding Galloway. I've had them for years. However, this doesn't detract from the genuine movement.

If they had found something on Tony Benn or Tariq Ali then I would be worried. Galloway? We all have suspected him. Never liked the bloke even if he is innocent. What is he doing writing for the Mail? £70,000 a year plus his MP's salary and the rest. Arsehole!
