DISBAND GARDAI

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Saturday May 11, 2002 14:40author by Ali La Pointe - fun lovin sexy bad assed freedom fightersReport this post to the editors

Quite a simple demand really

Faking "confessions", no automatic right to solicitors in interviews, no taping of interviews, brutalising peaceful demonstrators, falsly arresting, racially abusing and assaulting people of colour and then framing them with assault charges, harrassing travellers, no acceptable complaints mechanism... the list goes on. They sound.. well, like the RUC in the good old days.. Can someone make the Tshirt/ paint the signs?. I don't have the wherewithall

Yeah we already have All Ireland policing standards, the R.U.C. in Belfast, the Gaurds in Dublin and Martin Ferris in Kerry.

Sorry for the slip up above

Disband the Gardai. Wow great idea and what do you propose we replace them with. Bet u didn't think this one out.

I know we will bring back the black and tans or no the B Specials. the ACA well why we are at it why don't we just go the whole way and have the Army police the streets. It will save on the medical bill they could just shoot us?

What a stupid idea.

Police may have there faults but they are needed.

"the police may have their faults, but then they are needed" you have such vision, comrade Jim. Sure you could say the same about cars and bosses but aren't we making demands against them? Or maybe I am wrong and all it would take is for nice people to fill these posts for them to be Ok, how about it Garda Jim?

Yeah luke, disband the RUC, the Gards, the Provos, the Irps, the loyalists, even the Stickies, all cops and punishment squads, self appointed or otherwise.

The fact is that cops protect the rich and their property, they maintain law and order for ordinary citizens only when it suits and only insofar as it provides the kind of stability capital needs in order to tick over. Ultimately they are anti-working class, the front line for capital, not just brutalising people on demos, picket lines etc. But anyone from any working class part of the country will tell you about their instinctive anti-working class bias which comes out whenever they get a chance, whenever no one's looking, or no one deemed to be a credible witness is looking.

It's perfectly reasonable to demand their disbandment, it's not as if I expect it to happen overnight. It's the kind of demand that makes them behave.

When some one kicks your ass or robs you or assaults a friend or love etc, and you go cryin to the cops make sure you say that you Idiot.

Reform the Gardai is more a realistic goal.

I wanr the Gardai and I'm working class. They protect me, With out the cops there would be disorder the vast majorty want order. They want the train to run on time, they want to be able to go to the doctor, they want money to spend in the pub/shop what ever. They don't want to live in a country where you have to carry a side arm. drive around in a bulletproof car.

I don't want to have too dodge bullets just to get the school.

Take 30 sec and think what the world would be like with out law and order.......................
... Hell on Earth that what it would be.
