Peaceful Action at BNFL HQ

On Wednesday 13th, enroute to the Valentines Day, blockade at Sellafield, a bus load of protesters stopped to stretch their legs outside the BNFL Head Office, Risley, Warrington.

Having travelled across Ireland and Wales, it was time to have a break to stretch our legs. What better place to stop than at Risley, just outside Warrington. Home of BNFL Senior Management.

At first we could not find the right building as it is not very well signposted, so we took a tour around the Industrial Estate, making our presence felt with singing and chanting ("Ireland says NO, MOX must go").

Eventually we arrived at our Destination, our legs and vocal cords where now stretched, Dancing and Singing started in the court yard of BNFL. With an audiance of Staff looking on from three sides we formed a Human CND Sign, and raised a "NO MOX" banner on their flag pole.

We asked to get a statement from BNFL and they agreed. After half an hour the police arrived and hurried inside. After a while BNFL management came to the front door to read out their quickly prepared statement.
The full text of it now follows:

The singing continued for half an hour, local children attracted by the excellent sounds, chatted with some of us about Sellafield and the effects it was having on children in Ireland. Before leaving we replaced the "NO MOX" Banner with an Irish Tri-colour, and Someone chanted the telly tubbies slogan of "Tiocfaidh Ar La La".

Having mentioned earlier, BNFL is an excellant place to stop when travelling to future actions in Sellafied, as there is plenty of parking at the local Golf Club a few hundred feet from BNFL Head Office.

Oh, if only Faslane wasn't on at the same time!
I made it down from Faslane for the Feb 14th Protest at Sellafield and I was SO HAPPY to hear that there was a Non-Violent Direct Action at BNFL HQ. It's about time that the head honchos got to see at first hand an expression of what ordinary people think of the nuclear industry.

There's a quick lesson in BNFL speak
WE ARE OPEN AND ACCOUNTABLE = NO COMMENT = PLEASE GO AWAY WE DON'T WANT TO BE CAUGHT OUT ON CAMERA.

They are afraid of the truth.

Tim.

Great stuff guys,
here's to plenty more effective,non-violent,direct-action protests at the plant and also at Risley, until this ridiculous, uneconomic unsafe murder plant known as Sellafield is SHUT,for good. The campaign is only just beginning,we're going nowhere 'hippyhater'. (if you're so against our actions, why bother to read this article and add a comment, which none of us actually care about? :))
