with all these long haired middle class layabouts around who wouldn't recognise what an evil dictator was unless he did something very very nasty to their family while being forced to watch.

Riot police there but no riot - swp showboating and no attempt being made at a genuine blocade - basically an edgy papersale with 1000+ ppl taking part

SWP abandoned a perfectly good siege of the Dail on the day of the vote. And are they now going to do something half-assed to try to save face?
The RBB party should cop itself on and either do a determined demo or none at all. publicity is nice, but being effective is better.
Have a full on sit down blockade. Assert your right to peaceful protest and do not be baited by rough-handling (know that it is a deliberate ploy)
Keep cameras rolling for Insp Keenan and his gestapo tactics (he rarely gets his own hands dirty)
pity cant be there

I think you are confusing late 1960's with early 21 Century - and nobody mentioned dictators on this thread - so why are you mentioning longhairs and dictators in same thread about dail - is nixon haunting you?

one who presses their own will on a population without regard to democracy.

this is done in some countries by the crude use of violence and torture.

In others by sheer arrogance, highly paid PR, corrupt legal systems and orchestrated police suppression of protest.

The most succesful dictatorships are the ones that cloak themselves from by the masses until it becomes too obvious too late.

You amadán.

You have no idea, do you, of what's outside your cosy existence. Evil is real, it happens. The US at present is our only defence against the horror most of humainty exists under.

Get real! It's not a game.

Ever heard of Bohemian Grove Bernard. Now you go and get real. The US is the one covered in evil and let us not forget that the US backed Saddam and also refused to remove him from the Iraqi scene in 1991 when Bushdaddy saw that a Islamic Fundamentalist State was in the offing. Do check out the shit that goes down in Bohemian Grove and while you're at it check out the number of paedophiles in the US Administration and then you will be able to talk about evil. Try this link for example http://www.trance-formation.com and then tell us all about evil you uninformed ignoramus.

it doesn't matter what damn organisation..
"oh no, they sell papers"
then just don't buy them
they turned up at the right time today and helped the protest get past the first barrier where the guards would like to keep us
after some confusion real effort was made to block the road and when i left about about 9:10 we had it completely held and the guards seem to have given up (and the riot police were tired as hell)
i'm interested in finding out what happened after & seeing pictures
protesters where peacful and the gardai handled it very badly..
though..we only blocked the front entrance (as far as i know) so why didn't the idiots just go out the back door and walk/get a taxi home?

As far as i could see the SWP were not the ones to get people past the barrier. It seemed to me to be a spontaneous action by a few people who then called upon the rest of the people behind the barriers to join them. More and more people did, and eventually nobody was left behind the barrier. I'm not trying to say that there were no SWP members present in the group that started this action, there may have been (I was among them but i don't know the others), but it most definately wasn't an SWP led action.

The USA has bombed the following countries since 1945:
China,Korea, Guatemala, Indonesia, Cuba, Congo, Peru, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Grenada, Libya, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Iraq, Sudan, Afghanistan, former Yugoslavia. None of these bombing campagins led to the establishment of humane democracies in the countries involved, nor were they designed to. US foreign policy is designed to protect and consolidate US economic interests, and democracy doesn't even come into it. The US backed Suharto, the Indonesian dictator, for over 25 years as he brutalised his own people and the people of East Timor and West Papua- he is "our kind of guy" (quote from the US administration of the time). I didn't see the US leaping in there to liberate those people. The NATO bombings in Kosovo and Serbia in 1999 served to escalate the atrocities being committed by the Serbs, and the Clinton administration knew this would happen when they started.
Far from being a defence against the horror that most of humanity lives under, US foreign policy in often the cause of this horror, and they're only getting started- this war is nothing compared to what they have planned.
If you're as uninformed as you appear to be Bernard, I recommend reading something like Noam Chomsky's "Rogue States" or some of the excellent essays and articles John Pilger has written on the subject.
