National Demonstration this Saturday Sat 29![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() National Demonstration this Saturday Sat 29 Message about National Demonstration next Saturday...Can you pass it on to friends, relatives...We need to ensure a huge turnout. We need help with postering & leafteting. If you can help get back to me. IRISH ANTI WAR MOVEMENT NATIONAL DEMONSTRATION
STOP THIS WAR – US MILITARY OUT OF SHANNON SATURDAY MARCH 29TH 3PM, PARNELL SQUARE, DUBLIN.
Despite the huge demonnstrations of February 15th around the world Bush and Blair have gone ahead and begun their attack on Iraq. The allied forces have unleashed a ferocious assault which is certain to claim the lives ofr thousands of innocent Iraqis. However the global anti war movement has responded magnificently organising massive demonstrations on Day X and last Thursday to send a clear message to Bush and Blair that those oppossed to war will not rest until this slaughter is halted. Here in Ireland we saw tens of thousands stop work, walk out of their schools and clolleges and join protests in their towns and cities on Day X. Last weekend saw over 10,000 people take to the streets of Dublin and thousands also marched in Cork, Belfast Galway,Sligo, Waterford, Tullamore, Limerick and Shannon. Now this Saturday in Dublin the IAWM and the NGO Peace Alliance backed by SIPTU, the Labour Party, Green Party, Sinn Fein, Socialist Party, the Islamic Community, Socialist Workers Party have called another National demonstration. We want to see tens of thousands take to the streets against this war and to protest the disgraceful collaboration of our government with this barbaric war. We call on all anti war activistsw and groups around the country to mobilise for this protest to ensure that this government is brought to account for its failure to listen to the voices of the people and end its support for a war on the people of Iraq. Please organise now to ensure everyone you can get word to joins this vital protest.
Richard Boyd Barrett, Chair Irish Anti War Movement.

Unless there is a plan for a signicant 'sit down','blockade',or some form of peaceful disturbance, this rally will be the last, the gen.public are willing to show their resistance, in a stronger fashion, just lead the way!
Demo at Shannon on Sunday March 30th. 2.00pm at the gates. Get there get stuck in to something with effect.
What do you mean 'get stuck in' at Shannon protest? Please explain. My understanding is that this protest will take the form of a slow funeral procession from Shannon town centre. How is this more radical than IAWM?? More boring alright probably.
I'm also curious about the comment above. Is direct action planned for the GNAW demo in Shannon? And, if so, I hope it's something more sensible than the bullshit 'action' last time. I was embarrassed to be on it to tell the truth.
they are just using the war to get a few temporary members for a few months, the swp dont care about stopping the war or they would be out every morning blocking traffic at intersection points as is happening in San Francisco, where they are serious,
The Grand Old Duke of York
He had 10,000 protesters
He marched them up to the top of the hill
and he marched them down again
And when they were up they were up
and when they were down they were down
and when they were only half way up
they were neither up nor down
The SWP should not abuse their position in the IAWM and put "School Students Against War" down as an organisation. The real school student group against war is Youth Against War. SAW is only in ONE school, most of it activists are in their late 20s/early 30s.
I don't know if this is accurate since I've had nothing to do with the planning, but I'd guess that the 'dead slow' bit is intended to maximise the amount of time that the road into Shannon is blocked. Effectively a blockade without the confrontation and risk of arrest.
Would the SP & SWP stop fighting ovre the franchise for youth anti war groups.
no one group has a right to a monopoly.
Bertie is laughing about them, the killers are still using Shannon, it is just a trotskyist trick to waste time, dissipate energy and gain a few new members, who wont stay members for long when they suss out the phoney playacting
How absolutely ridiculous is it to arrange a anti-war protest that coincides with the biggest sporting event as far as the Mid-West and Ireland is concerned perhaps ever. We should be maximising our opportunities not minimising. Last time out was a shambles. You said we would come back with greater numbers, well I can assure you we are not going to do that this Sunday. People power is going to make the difference and we will not have that on Sunday. In fact, we will look an absolute shambles. Could not have picked a worse day or time - it is clashing right with the Lansdowne kick-off. I have been at all the Shannon protests so far and I am committed to the anti-war movement but as a protest to the ineptitude of organisers, I will not be going on Sunday. Please call this off and reschedule for a day when we will be able to make a real point. Bit by bit, this great movement is imploding with ineptitude!!!!
