Captured US troops are War Criminals not POW's

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Tuesday March 25, 2003 11:19author by James McKennaauthor email jimmymac61 at hotmail dot com Report this post to the editors

MILITARY intervention against Iraq is a crime against peace demanding vengeance before God, the head of the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace Archbishop Renato Raffaele Martino has said. The Pope and Sean Brady, Catholic primate of All Ireland agree with him.

We see how the US/UK treats their captured adversaries. Men in Guantanamo Bay and others being daily tortued in the Bhagram base north of Kabul where Irish Soldiers are stationed.

The Mujahideen, Talibs and innocents captured in Afghanistan are not invaders or acting in any way illegally. They were defending their homes . So how much worse must be the treatment for sodiers who invade a country illegally and kill hundreds of civilians. The Apache helicopter pilots will surely suffer a swift and just death, as is their payment due for crimes against the innocent Iraqi people.

Bishop John Michael Botean, the head of the Romanian Catholic eparchy (diocese) of St. George in Canton, Ohio declared with "moral certainty" that the proposed attack on Iraq "does not meet even the minimal standards of the Catholic just-war theory."

Now they are designating Basra as a "Military target", this means all humans in Basra can be murdered .

I presume you are a believer in capital pubnishment and the doctrine of 'an eye for an eye'?

War is, above all, an assault on peace and a warlike atmosphere promotes and encourages conflict far beyond the war zone.

The only solution to war is peace. Not only peace in iraq, but peace in America, peace in Ireland, peace in hearts and minds of people everwhere.

If you don't like war then be the peace you want to see in the world. Think peaceful thoughts, expose yourself to peaceful experiences and conregate with peaqeful people. Speak and write about peaceful things in a peaceful tone. Radiate peace.

Anger and hatred and violence - even verbal violence just spreads conflict further.

Don't direct your anger at the cpatured troops. They are engaging in illegal action and may even be in favour of it, but at the end of the day they're just poor schmucks who bought the whole 'join the army and serve your country crap'.

In a way they are as much victims as the iraqis, although the iraqis have a better case.

Anger should be directed at their paymasters like bush and blair who use these soldiers as pawns in their game, and at capitalism whose inequity and drive for profit creates the seedbed for these wars.

Apart from philosophy or reasoning I was reporting the reality of the present situation.

The anger you imagine is not mine .

The Iraqi Government has stated that captured Crusaders will be dealt with under Islamic law. While there is great room for mercy and this would probably apply to the supply convoy troops who only returned fire in defence of their position , it would most likely not apply to men flying heavily armed killing machines like the Apache Longbow. Their families should prepare for the worst, probably when the US start to massacre civilians in Basra (drop them a line and give them the "eye for an eye" talk).

I hope this war stops now and all those soldiers are returned home safely to their families. I could never hate or feel angry against such misguided frightened children.

two factors are going to stop the Americans:

Mounting US deaths.

and EFFECTIVE and persistent condemnation by the people of the world.

EVERYTHING you do in Ireland and Europe is vitally important.

where you can link up with other groups

then go at it.

life is about choices

the captured US soldiers have free will

they made choices

one of which was to join the military

whose job it is to kill, maim and destroy

at least now they might finally self-reflect

on the absurdity of their choices

and yes, i do pray for their safety
