Folks , many of you may have met, seen or heard of Sem Karoba - West Papuan freedom activist - who spent 6 mts in Ireland recently. He was home in West Papua when his leader was assassinated in November. Now her has been threatended. Please help us get him back here asap!!!!....
MESSAGE FROM SEM!!!!!
Dear all friends in the whole planet,
I am writing to you this second letter, after reading
a letter that makes me feel concerned about West
Papua's future: will the struggle be non-violent or
violent?
Anything at all that will happen to me, will bring a
serious impact on Koteka People all over the world, I
mean those in the villages, towns, and in the jungles.
But the army/Kopassus is determined to eliminate
people like us. They did it clearly to Theys. They
have done it to Arnold Ap, Thom Waiggani, Willem Onde,
Hans Bomay, Simon Alom, and they are now threatening
John Rumbiak and Bonay.
A member of Special Forces, a guy who was involved
personally in the assassination of Theys H. Eluay,
whose identity I cannot reveal right now, for his
personal security and carrier has phoned someone whom
I know, this morning and told him: "Tell Sem, be
careful. They got the big man, Theys. They can get him
easily. The key for him is to take care of himself,
cleverly!" Then the phone went off.
What I want to do now is to wait until the Papua
Congress III 2002 is successfully carried out.
Otherwise I, or my koteka people will get frustrated
if the outcome goes into a wrong direction. We want to
see what they do from there.
Afterwards, I must not stay here, this is hell. But
how can I leave my people suffer? This is my heart's
speaking.
Let us know what we should do, all of us, Rumbiak,
Bonay and myself.
Yours sincerely,
=====

Hi All,
Just to let you know that I have written to Sem
suggesting that he returns to Ireland ASAP. It sounds
as though there is a very real danger in Indonesia for
him right now. I have spoken to some of you and we
just don't think it is worth him risking being there
any longer. £500 is going into his bank today so he
can buy air ticket but anything else, inc. small
amounts is of course really useful for him cos he
doesn't really even have enough to buy food at the
moment.
Obviously it is up to him what he thinks is best. I
just wanted all his friends to know that this is what
he has been reccomended so far and that he should have
enough money to buy a ticket back.
