Shannon : New trenches and barbed wire![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Shannon : Trenches and barbed wire Today I had the misfortune to visit Ireland's contribution to America's war effort. What supprised me was that the airport is changing.Changing for the worse. Today Wednesday 19 March 2003 Shannon airport is being fortified.A large trench was being dug around the entire perimiter of the airport (visible from the main car road in).I assume this is to stop people driving straight through the fence. Around the corner I saw workers errecting a 5/6 foot inner fence of razor wire. This isn't the normal barbed wire but the more advanced razor wire. This wire goes from the ground upwards for 6 feet. This is a serious inner wall. I saw no evidence of the army but did spot some Us troop planes.Gardai were checking people going into the airport. If you wear a suit they won't even stop you.
