ISRAEL: BUILDING THE APARTHEID WALL

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Tuesday March 11, 2003 19:28author by SomeoneoutthereWhere?don'tcare Report this post to the editors

Chaired by Christian Aid's Oisín Coghlan who will also introduce their recent report "Losing Ground: Israel, poverty and the Palestinians" Presentations include Apartheid Wall: Eyewitness Report Volunteering in Palestine at The Irish Film Centre, Eustace St, Dublin 2 (in the Upstairs Meeting Room) at 7.30pm on Thursday 13th March 2003

"ISRAEL: BUILDING THE APARTHEID WALL"

- All welcome -

------------------------------
Facts about the Apartheid Wall

- Estimated to be 3 times as long and twice as high as the Berlin Wall (360km, imprisoning the whole of the West Bank)
- Will include electrical fences, trenches and security patrols
- Will not be built within its de-facto international borders. It will be built within the West Bank, upon seized privately owned Palestinian lands and shall annex approximately 10% of the West Bank to Israel
- Will annex some of Palestine's most fertile lands and water sources, including in Qalqilya: the Western Aquifer system, which provides 51% of the West Banks water resources as well as 14 water wells in the city - some 30% of the city's water resources
- The military orders and the construction of the wall violate basic principles of international human rights and humanitarian law
- In the one area where the Wall is already complete, unemployment has increased from 16% to 70%
- Land confiscation, destruction and severe restrictions of movement will result in loss of 6,500 jobs

Source: www.pengon.org

The Wall (also referred to as the fence; or security fence) which Israel is currently building in the northeast of the West Bank, as well as in the Bethlehem and Jerusalem areas, will not mark the 1967 border, also known as the Green Line. Rather, amidst some of the most fertile land in Palestine, this latest unilateral offensive will be a further exercise in Israel's annexation of lands, destruction of agriculture and property, and violation of human rights.

The construction and destruction revolving around the Apartheid Wall is to move full-force in the coming months and it could be completed in less than one year. The prospects of a completed wall are horrific, and will translate into the confiscation and annexation of some 10% of the West Bank, the destruction of hundreds of thousands of dunums of farmland including the uprooting of hundreds of thousands of trees, the demolition of homes, and the tragic 'advancement' of the closure and siege policy that will leave thousands of families landless, jobless, hungry, and hopeless.

This article does not mention the purpose of the fence: it is being put up for the sole reason of preventing Palestinian terrorists from entering Israel and murdering innocent civilians. A similar fence was put up around Gaza and has proved extremely effective in preventing incursions by Palestinian terrorists intent on bombing and shooting at random inside Israel. However, unfortunately, it has failed to stop Palestinians loosing off rockets filled with high-explosive at random towards an Israeli town, namely Sderot. This necessitated the recent incursion by IDF armour into Gaza. Put briefly, there would be no need for any fence if Palestinian terrorists were not intent on murdering Jews randomly. If the Palestinians insist on acting like wild animals, unfortunately they have to be treated like wild animals.

Your colleagues in Indymedia Boston seem to have a totally different view concerning the war, and america and israel.

FREEDOM FOR PALESTINE AND THE SIX COUNTIES.

Avi, Palestinians are no more wild animals that the residents of any concentration camp are animals. Your need to dehumanise Palestinians is a means of shoring up your disgusting idea that what Israel does illegally in Palestine is the result of Palestinian terror. The argument you put forth is essentially that Israel is forced to act like a barbarian 16th century colonial regieme because Palestinian intransigence reduces them to it. this is just not borne out by the facts. The wall has nothing to do with security any more than the reinvasion and mass murder in gaza has anything to do with security. the gaza invasion is designed to eliminate the political leadership of Hamas who represent a political threat to Israel. Hamas have refused to accept a bantusan solution to the conflict, something which the wall is intended to achieve. It purposely steals the best arable land and the david aquafer while it isolates and separates Palestinain population centres.

If history is the policemans boot stamping on a human face its clear that israel is the cop and enjoys noones support but the pentagon and US christian fundamentalists. Of course there are also chumps like you, reduced by stone throwing children to supporting anachronistic war criminal fascists like ariel sharon. Your time is passing, israel is a rogue nation and a failed state that has no future.

Verbal Abuse is a fundamentally fascist reaction and discredits the perpetrator. I never said the Palestinians were wild animals. You should pay closer attention. I said they act like wild animals.

You're spliting hairs Avi,

You said "behaving like wild animals" He said "treating them like wild animals".... He just took what you said first.

And your language dehumanizes the Palestinian, which as you pointed out is a fundamentaly fascist
reaction.

author by Avipublication date Tue Mar 11, 2003 22:45author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Not at all. It's a fundamental distinction.

Just as not every criticism of Israel is anti-Semitic, not every criticism of the Palestinians is racist. In any case, your claims of racism are a nice way of avoiding the issue that random murders committed by Palestinian terrorists are war crimes, a status confirmed by Amnesty International. This in relates to my comments on the fence, which is the central issue of this thread. In fact, you don't seem to value Jewish lives very much or at all.

author by King Mobpublication date Tue Mar 11, 2003 23:36author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Where exactly do I say "I don't value jewish lives"? I don't ever. I just made a pun about your contemptable use of semantics to avoid the thrust of his attack to wit you said "Palestinians behave like wild animals" a loathsome generalisation displaying your rascism.

Your rascism is this "If the Palestinians behave like wild animals" a wall makes no distinction much like you do Avi, a wild sweeping statement displaying your rascists feels.

You then attack me accusing me of being rascist, when in fact the only thing I'm guilty of is bad alliteration (guilty).

Oh and Avi Amnesty critize Israeli far more often than Palestians.

Oh and the facts speak for themselves,

The child death toil is 6 Palesitian children for each Isreali child, excluding death from malnutrition and lack of medinice, caused by IDF blockades and curfews.

And another fact, you are a rascist little shit Avi

author by Palmiro Togliattipublication date Tue Mar 11, 2003 23:36author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Avi,

if Israel is only building this wall to defend itself against Palestinian attacks, why doesn't it build it along the Green Line between Israel and the West Bank, instead of building it well inside the Green line?

Somehow I can't help feeling suspicious that the fact that the wall will leave 7% or so of the West Bank north of Jerusalem on the Israeli side means that it's more of a land grab than a defensive measure provoked by Palestinian attacks. And of course this includes a lot more then 7% of the West Bank's fertile land, since almost all the fertile land is in the western part of the West Bank. And a lot of the West Bank's water resources.

Of course, Israel could if it wanted remoce the motivation for these attacks by ending its occupation of the West Bank altogether. Better still, that would cost it nothing and save Israeli and Palestinian lives. Stealing Palestinian land and sealing off their towns from the outside world, from food supplies and from water sources is hardly the best way to persuade the Palestinians that you want to live in peace with them.

Its rich of you avi to refer to my response as verbal abuse. considering that in the last few days alone youve accused people of being sick and immoral for percieved slights and disagreeements. and verbal abuse as fascist behaviour is just an absurd claim. i call the israeli army and your pals in the govt fascist because that is how they act, not becuase they say or think that i am stupid.

your racism is a bigger problem. were i to refer to the few hundred settlers in hebron, most from france and the usa, who hold 120 000 palestinians hostage with the help of 2500 conscripts of the israeli army, as 'behaving like wild animals' you and other people who use this site would righteously condemn me for conflating jews with wild animals. though the settlers are odious and crazy i recognise their humanity and their right to be treated and considered as human beings. we wont get very far in debate or political development if we cant recognise some basic standards of civility and humaneness.

Avi, off you go again using anti-whoever-is-against-me-this-week cover again. You are a genocide-denier, thug and a racist and your postings over the past few weeks prove it.

It is undeniable that you only regard Israelis as human and Palestinians as wild animals who can be put down at will in that you denounce random killings of Israelis but make no mention of the random daily killings of Palestinians.

I will never forget the 12 year old Palestinian boy killed on live TV by your "Brave" IOF soldiers before the worlds news cameras ... deny that if you dare!

Of course you make no mention either or torture, intimidation and government sanctioned assassination of political political opponents in Israel, the occupied territories and abroad by your MOSSAD terrorist gang.

why not also mention the wall on the Jordanian border?
Israel has built a wall on the border with Jordan.
Israel is building a wall around Gaza
Israel is building a wall on the Golan Heights.
Israel builds walls.
the most expensive extensive security fences in history. Israel though does not build these walls alone, because Israel´s 2nd world economy does not have enough money. Israel´s 2nd world economy relies on US funding and European funding.
nearly two million people of Palestinian birth live on the other side of the Jordanian wall.
¿do you remember what happened to the Berlin Wall Avi?
