Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9The ten arrested during the mass trespass at Shannon back in October (where the fence was actually pulled down) are all due before the district court on 20th March. In Shannon town, I think.
Lets hope that the Fair and Impartial Justice system of this fine nation wins the day,and all 10 are sentanced to hard labour for at least 10 years! Failing that maybe the time is right for the reintroduction of the death penalty?
Seriously..Flogging was never really discredited as a valid deterrent. it works in Thailand..
The tarot cards tell me long prison terms are the order of the day....I wish they would shut up..
hard labour to pay back what they forced the state to pay out to the Gardai
You're not going to let that arguement go are you?
The equation is simple.
No US planes in Shannon = no protest at Shannon = Gardai don't do overtime.
I didn't write that. Somebody's masquerading as me. I wouldn't say something that ridiculous.
My point is that these sort of jackass antics alientate the public. It robs the antiwar campaign of credibilty.
When they see people wasting police time like this it just pisses them off. It does damage to the anti-war cause.
You think the govt will change it's mind bacuase of the action of a few people?
It didn't work at Greenham Common. Did it?
When these ten people were arrested at the time of the mass trespass in October, verbal assurances were given by the gardai, in the hearing of hundreds of people, that there would be no follow up to any of these arrests. We were told that the arrestees would have to be taken to Shannon Garda Station to be processed and that that would be the end of the matter.
seanin your arguement that these "antics" alienate the public (of which i am also a part) is weak at best. do you sincerely assert that the average Irish resident will suddenly have second thoughts because they do not accept the validity of non-violent Direct Action. Suddenly they agree with Georgie? and a wave of pro-war sentiment will sweep across Ireland! i'd be inclined to give people a bit more credit than dismissing the vast majority of ireland as bandwagon jumpers. you argue the actions of a few won't change anything...then you moan that it will.!??
this jaded (and wholley disproven) arguement has well and truly passed it's use-by date. can't you guys come up with a new, slightly more plausible one? it was nearly funny for a while but we're all getting bored.
I will be giving evidence for the prosecution against the Virtual Warriors.
