Open Space against War.

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Sunday March 02, 2003 14:02author by ipsiphiauthor address barcelona. Report this post to the editors

Saturday Carnival landmark occupation.

Saturday 1 March 2003 Number 2 Placa del Pi. Barcelona a council property has been occupied against the war during a Carnival against the War.

The first "espai alliberat contra la guerra" was the Council ex"hacienda" building occupied on Feb 15 during the mass mobilisation.

That occupation was withdrawn to metaphysical space on Feb 17th.

The occupation has returned to Ajuntamient space as pof yesterday´s "carnival against the war". Barcelona activists have selected "number two place of Pi" as the next "open space liberated against the war".

The council has been proprieter of the Plaza Pi site for 80 years.

if you go to the link you will see a photo of the first Council property occupied in this ongoing series of Civil Disobedience Direct Action Pacifism and a little bit of trippyhippyanarko okupe -ism.

There is also a manifesto page against the war.

=We hope this idea spreads.

placeta del Pi number 2.
http://barcelona.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=34365&group=webcast

the building is still occupied.

Yesterday questions and answers were had for Nunca Mais
a video wasnt shown coz the TV is broken.
food not bombs were munched.
some women hugged a lot.
Some human shields spoke to us.
Everyone agreed the space was very cool.
and the idea "really wonderful"
we saw some Iraqi money.
(saddam hussein´s face is on the notes)
the tourists who live in the hostel next door asked sensible questions.
Q. "is this about the war then?"
A: yes.
Q. "the war in Iraq?"
A. yes.
Q. "wot u goin to stop the war in Iraq innit?"
A. yes.
[that conversation represented the first contact I have had with real live "english" people in some months. I feel no fresh optimism for an imporved geo-political situation at the grassroots level]
