Phoenix Mentions

Phoenix covers March 1 protest at Shannon and profiles Indymedia.ie editor Eamonn Crudden

Seen in this month's Phoenix:
On page 4, an article about the March 1 protest and how the IAWM, SIPTU, PANA, NGO, SF, Greens and Labour reacted to it's proposal. Specifically mentions a quote from here : "Wow, refused permission to attend our own demo!"

And on page 16, the `Young Bloods` profile is of Eamonn Crudden, one of indymedia's editors. Rather positive article, though the last paragraph doesn't pull it's punch :
"Comparing reports on Indymedia Israel and Indymedia Palestine on house demolition and the killings of children, it seems that the space devoted by certain Irish contributors to petty squabbles and paranoid conjecture could be better employed. With a bit more pruning of the content, Crudden, who has already had success as a filmmaker, could turn a tool useful for keeping tabs on the cops into something far more important."

Nice to get some background on the people behind Indymedia, and nicer still to see they actually walk the walk...

Wonder what they'll make of today's screw-up in Shannon though?

phoenix breaks far more stories dealing with attempts to undermine Irish neutrality and the stealthy build up in military expenditure by the Irish political elite than Indymedia does with its crazy sp/swp postings about their 'parties' efforts to out do each other.

There was one error in the Phoenix Report when they reffered to Indymedia 'Editors'. Of course that should have read 'Censors'.

Impersonating people to try to make a political point was never a particularly good joke, but I'd have thought that even its biggest fans would have cooled off by now. Looks like I've been over-estimating people again...
