Rabitte's remarks on war inadequate

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday February 21, 2003 19:49author by Shelta Daltun

The Labour Party leader has said that Ahern's support for a second resolution before war against Iraq logically implies that Ahern should therefore state that any unilateral attack on Iraq by the US and its allies would be unjustified, immoral and illegal. So it is Rabbitte's position that if a majority coalition of the bought and the bribed at the U.N. supports the US, then the war is no longer unjustified. This makes morality a matter of how successful the U.S. is in bribing members of the security council. This is a bizarre position for a 'leader' of the Irish working class.

...either the war is right or it is wrong. The opinions of 15 unelected and corrupt ambassadors is immaterial. The very fact that Turkey is prepared to allow US troops to use its territory in exchange for $20bn proves Shelta's point. More than 90% of the Turkish population opposes the war. Hurrah for democracy!
