category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday February 14, 2003 17:25author by Joe Report this post to the editors

Here's the link to Maggie O'Kane's article in today's Guardian, she describes what collateral damage really is . Read it and weep. No, read it and march and send this article to every TD and MP you can think of who supports the war.

DU (Depleated Uranium) is quite new to the front lines - 1991 gulf war: it's effects will be with us for what can only be described as 'eons' - we are giving the future ,for decades, generations, centuries and beyond a guarantee of birth defects, cancer, misery pain and suffering.

Sadly, gulf war syndrome is more likely to cause us to reconsider the use of things lie DU than what actually happens in countries lie Iraq. This, in itself, however selfish on the part of the citizens of the west it may be, is something. However , fora (singular of forum?) like this actively shorten the distance between the 'frontline' and 'back home': We keep the lazy, bought, careerist, incompetent hack journo bastards on their toes, and in so doing, make people sit up and notice. We actually have a chance of reaching people. This is new.

War may not happen this time. If it does, it will not be like it was the last time. This time, the Irish government couldn't get away with troops and munitions (sorry weapons)in Shannon. Now, after 3 direct actions, the majority of Irish people polled (49% over 42%), according to an opinion poll in the Irish Times, don't support the US using Shannon as a stopover even with a new UN resolution. 68% are currently against it's use. Smug Fine Gaelers, finna foulers, pee dees and the rest can sit on the fence til the cows come home - or the planes fuck off - whichever. Fact is that we are already against war and we will let the world know what depleated uranium and cluster bombs do and what the oil reserve currency issues are. We have Tim and they have Tom. HA!
