Art Spiegelman resigns from New Yorker to protest![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Author of (Q) For what do you reproach the New Yorker? For marching to the same beat as the New York Times and all the other great American media that don't criticize the government for fear that the administration will take revenge by blocking their access to sources and information. Mass media today is in the hands of a limited group of extremely wealthy owners whose interests don't coincide at all with those of the average soul living in a country (USA) where the gap between rich and poor is now unbridgeable. In this context, all criticism of the administration is automatically branded unpatriotic and un-American. Our media choose to ignore news that in the rest of the world receives wide prominence; if it were not for the Internet, even my view of the world would be extremely limited. This is why indymedia is so important: "they" can't take the truth away if you are the one making it. I've written to Maus to tell him to forget the NYT and "The Nation" and to start writing and drawing for Indymedia. Meanwhile, back in Ireland: Indymedia.ie: Get Involved! Join us Feb 15! Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4A New Yorker journalist had the cheek to go on a very risky trip to Iraq to see how the kurds were doing since they were gassed in 98.
Or was it the stories they did about individual New Yorkers who died in the twin towers.
Or was it that the weekly reamings they give to George Jr. aren't harsh enough.
Or has he just forgotten that the New Yorker has a reputation for quality journalism and has not and should not get caugh up in pro or anti campaignes about anything.
A lot of the posters here could learn a lot about real journalism by reading the New Yorker.
Good riddence.
ahh new yorker, what a delightful little posting that was, true journalism indeed, hmmm, are you suggesting that art spieglman is not any good at his job or that , shame on him, in his capacity as a journalist he has the spine to realise that you have to have morals and that you are responsible for what you write.journalism is not a job like mcdonalds where you just produce vaguely tasteful clumps day in day out, but then again there are always going to be those who disagree because they fail to realise that no one is objective even lo and behold themselves. cop on. Kudos to spieglman
the new yorker: well crafted horseshit for the liberal bourgesie.
