Press Release 10/02/03
Surgeons organise major symposium .
The Biological Society of the Royal College of Surgeons is holding a major symposium on the current crisis over Iraq in Dublin City University tomorrow Tuesday 11th of February. The symposium will take place in The Helix in DCU at 7.30pm and substantial numbers of Doctors and health workers are expected to attend as well as members of the general public.
Speakers include: Denis Halliday (Former UN Assistant Secretary General), Michael D Higgins TD (Labour Party spokesperson on Foreign Affairs), Sharis Trani (An Iraqi Nuclear Physicist who worked on the Iraqi Nuclear programme until 1979), Richard Boyd Barrett (Chairperson, Irish Anti war Movement) and Dr David Hickey (Transplant Surgeon, Beaumont Hospital).
The symposium will be aimed at mobilising health workers and professionals against the looming war on Iraq and, in particular, for the International Day of Action against war due to take place this Saturday February 15th. The meeting will also propose to formally establish an organisation of health professionals in the Irish health service to oppose war on Iraq. Finally, the meeting will try and focus on the terrible human consequences of war, particularly in the presentation by Dr David Hickey, transplant surgeon in Beaumont Hospital and one of the chief organisers of the symposium.
The Symposium is open to the general public but places are limited to 400. Admission is Free.
For more information/confirmation/bookings contact Richard Boyd Barrett 087-6329511 or Dr David Hickey 087-2367468. |

Jump To Comment: 1Both Michael D and Denis Halliday spoke last night in Galway. It was really good and very interesting. I would strongly recommend going to this for anyone that can.
