'petro-dollar' hegemony

This article was first posted on www.indymedia.org by W. Clark ([email protected]) Although completely suppressed in the U.S. media, the answer to the Iraq enigma is simple yet shocking - it an an oil CURRENCY war. The Real Reason for this upcoming war is this administration's goal of preventing further OPEC momentum towards the euro as an oil transaction currency standard. However, in order to pre-empt OPEC, they need to gain geo-strategic control of Iraq along with its 2nd largest proven oil reserves.

...seeing as they have the most to gain from a petro-euro association. But where would that put Russia?

Eh? I think most people who read any of the indymedia sites would know that. This isn't the first time it was ever mentioned or discussed. Numerous articles and comments have regulary talked about it for months now.

Having said that, there are always new people coming along, so it is worth mentioning. It is just that the story seems to be presented as some great revealation. No one has a monopoly on thought here.

"...and eliminate the
need to woo and invest in Russia as an alternative source of energy..."
('The Push for War', Anatol Lieven, London Review of Books, October 2002)

Even though the full article was posted before (thanks for the link) it can sometimes be good to repost, particularly in this instance when France, Germany and Russia now appear, on the surface, to be taking an anti-war stance when in fact this is far from the case.

I agree on current merits for reposting this article.

Would you care to elaborate why you think France, Germany and Russia are far from being anti-war?? Though I'm sure you are correct.

Also, very little is heard about what China's position is. Do you or anyone else know exactly what their position is and what their interests in Iraq/the Gulf are?
