Today the UCD Students' Union sabbatical elections were officially declared open.
Throughout this year there has been great anger directed at the government over the issue of fees. The right-wing UCD SU leadership have exposed themselves as being bankrupt and ineffective.
The candidates from the left include Paul Murphy who is standing for the position of President, and Oisín Kelly who is standing for the position of Education Officer.
Both of these candidates have consistently argued for militant tactics and for students to reclaim their SU away from the hacks that currently dominate. Only a democratic and campaigning SU that has the respect of its members and the active involvement of its members can seriously take on the government on the issue of fees.
